Hi everyone, we visited Kalkan last year and paid for most things with British Pounds - particularly in shops and restaurants - is this still the way to go this year? :)
-
I suppose it depends on the interest rate they used. I change my stirling to lira there and I know many people use their Nationwide flex card, but hey, what ever you feel happiest with.

The answer is yes as many businesses in Kalkan are not overly familiar with the latest rates on the dollar or euro, contrary to other areas of Turkey, so many business will quote prices in £''s. From what most people say the exchange rates YTL is bought for in the UK is usually considerably lower than in Kalkan, so if you bring £''s you can exchange here or use for direct payment.

Thanks Joan and Mercimek. :)

Hi there,
Does anyone know the latest exchange rate in Kalkan?
A friend of mine has had to cancel their holiday due to XL and has some lira to sell at 2.19. I looked on one site and it said the rate is now up to 2.23...would that be the rate in Kalkan?
Not sure what to do,,uy at 2.19 or take the chance and buy out there.

The exchange rate will almost certainly be better in Kalkan than U.K. . . . DO NOT exchange at the airport at Dalaman. Take just enough lira bought from the U.K. to get you over the first few hours, as said earlier many businesses will accept sterling anyway.

Yesterday the rate at Baris''s (shop next to berzigan kitchen) was 2.11 not sure of the rate in the banks but he''s nearly always close or better.

Hi All,
Best rate was with Mustafa at the Merkez in August. 2 pts. better than the Video Shop or Infinity

Can anyone tell me what the local exchange rate is in Kalkan, the UK price has jumped to 2.23 YTL to the £ today. I am due to fly on Thu 25th and am not sure how quickly the local response is to rate change.

Thanks John,
I was planning to, but the way the markets have changed I was beginning to wonder what to do. The rate in the UK last weekend was YTL 2.06 per £. What a change!

The shops and post office in Kalkan update there rates more or less immediately. In general you will do quite a lot better (probably 5%) changing your money in Kalkan than in the UK.
