Title: Travel Republic Airport Transfers
Post by: clooneyrooney on June 28, 2008, 07:39:32 PM
Hi

I have just booked another week in Kalkan in October (travelling on my own!!) through Travel Republic and see that they offer a return airport shuttle service for one person for £34.53, which is much cheaper than Adda.

Has anyone used this service before and will it take 5 hours instead of 2 because of drop offs in other places?

Adda are brilliant but this saving is tempting me and now I don''t know what to do!!!!

Thanks

I did think about that but you know how these travel companies can always spin a yarn!

I''ve still got plenty of time so I will see if anyone else gives a reply before I contact them

Thanks Joan
Hope to meet up with you in the chatroom again soon.

Netts X

Ive done similar transfers in the past cos i always travel alone, but unfortunately Travel Republic were too expensive in the past to Kalkan for one person so i always had to get a private taxi. I noticed this year they now do a good price. But when taking shuttle transfers to other Turkish resorts, if i''m the only person going to a particular resort, ive had a car all to myself and also when coming to Kalkan a few weeks ago with a package, i shared a bus to a petrol station near Fethiye then a private car took me to Kalkan. Im sure it will be fine and hopefully transfer wont last that long.

As things turn out a friend of a friend used the Travel Republic transfer service recently and what happened was that passengers on an earlier flight into Dalaman had to wait on the minibus until my friends flight arrived.. They had been waiting for over an hour!!!
It turned out that the transfer did indeed do lots of "drop off''s" at various locations.

Perhaps they were just unlucky but with this information I have decided that I shall be using Adda Tours..... It may be more expensive than the Travel Republic transfer but at least I know I will get to Kalkan quickly and without any fuss.

Thanks

Why don''t you put your dates on the Transfer Share board? You may get lucky.

;D Just returned from Kalkan - Used Travel Republic transfers. Never been as smooth a tranfer as this from airport and return. Came out of luggage collection straight onto waiting minibus (didn''t ask how long the others had been waiting for us - but everybody seemed chilled and nobody was stressed as if they had been waiting long!). Only 2 other couples on bus @ turn off to Oluz de nez (spell check :-[ ) we transferred to our ''own'' minibus - straight to resort with a quick 10min fluid/loo break @ petrol station on way. - total transfer time 2 hours.
Return transfer just as smooth. Only 4 of us straight through to airport!
This was our 1st time in Kalkan LOVED IT!!!!

Have to agree with Cazbaz

My partner & I have just returned from our first time in Kalkan also (also had an excellent time!) & used Travel Republic.

We walked out the airport and were away within 10 minutes on a minibus, which was only shared with another couple, who fortunately were staying in the same hotel in Kalkan as us, so we did not have to endure any stops.

It took about 2-hours with a short 10-minute stop at a petrol station and on the way back we were the only ones, so we departed in a car and changed at Fethiye into a minibus, which again had no other passengers.

I assume that as the company Travel Republic uses are based in Fethiye, its going to be down to the luck of the draw in that they will be servicing all surrounding areas but its just how lucky you are with respects to how many other people booked Travel Republic transfers at that time.

One point I would add though is that even though a return was booked, you still have to contact the company when you are there to confirm the return journey and exactly what time they will pick you up (generally about 5-hours before the return flight leaves).

In my experience with them though, I couldn''t speak more highly, but appreciate we may have been lucky.

Phil.

Just a thought,

If anyone is considering using Travel Republic, Could be possible to check whether there are any other British flights coming to Dalaman that day, and if there are none within a 1-2 hour limit then it could be safe to say that the minibus should leave immediately.

hi!!!

I''m sorting out my trip to come at the end of october to stay with a friend in kalkan, and was wondering how your story had ended up? I don''t fancy a transfer alone!

Thanks!
