Title: Fethyie/Gochek
Post by: Jacdav on June 26, 2008, 03:32:39 PM
Hi,
Coming out beginning of August and wondered about staying a night in either one of them. Not worried about budget but would prefer to avoid Calis beach.

Thanks. :)

Thanks that seem to look the most interesting. Any ideas on Hotels.

Thanks,

Do you mean Gocek, if so I would go for this, much more peaceful than the hussle of Fethiye. Fethiye is a good working town with a nice harbour, however Gocek has a nice laid back feel of a small resort.

Hi
Would definitely go for Gocek - there is a small hotel called the Yagmur which is nice and the restaurants are a good standard too as many of them cater for the yachting community.

Gocek definitely - pass through Fethiye on your way there or back and just wander around and visit the harbour....or go on Tuesday to the lovely market...but stay in Gocek!  :)

I too would stay in Gocek (infact I have twice), same reasons - quieter, nicer resort. I have contact details of a nice hotel if you would like it. You can email them beforehand to ensure you have a booking.

Hi Misty - as Dalaman is 1 hour 40 and Gocek is about 15-20 mins I reckon - I think it will be just under 1.5 hours to Gocek - it is basically just before you get to the new tunnel..funnily enough called by the same name..!!   ;D ;D ;D

You can get the bus to Fethiye then I''m sure there will be another one to Gocek but will leave somebody else who knows for sure to reply on that bit..!!

Cheers!

Hi Felicity...once again thanks for your informative answer....I think a taxi is the order of the day for this one.

Hi Misty
There is very little to see in Gocek as it is really a yacht marina alongside a small village with no character -you could probably see it all in an hour.
Fethiye is a bustling large town still with it''s Turkishness alongside the touristy parts and it has some lovely hotels on the side opposite to Calis
So if you want some life go to Fethiye  ;D

.....but Gocek has such a lovely character that it would be lovely to mooch about for a day, you could even take a water taxi to the turkish bath/ other beach. 100% it would be Gocek for me, it never looses it''s charm. And do eat at the Nur restaurant, lovely meze, great calamari and much more- on the front by the West Cafe- great coffee.

....and I understand from friends that have a villa there that there is a lovely boat trip out of the marina - incorporating 12 little islands and is supposed to be very beautiful..!!  :)

It has tons of character, get the little boat across to the island beach, very charming with views to die for, lovely boat trips, great Turkish baths, little jetty with bean bags and a great marina. Swiss beach is expensive but stunning, great places to eat. We had a full week and was never bored. I couldn''t do a week in the middle of Fethiye too busy and hot.
