Title: Questions about Kalkan
Post by: NewtoKalkan on June 23, 2008, 04:48:31 PM
Dear All,

We are thinking about maybe coming to Kalkan next summer for our holidays.

Firstly, what is the servicing airport to get to Kalkan

What is the transfer time from the airport

Can anyone recommend some good self catering apartments to stay in

Is the resort very busy or is it quite a small resort

Would it be suitable for an 8 year old child

Is it very hilly

All comments greatfully appreciated and thanks to all who post !

The villa I always use really nice and Carys is fantastic, she will arrange all transfers.

Dalaman is the airport, transfer time 1 hour 40 ish.

Yes its hilly you walk into town early evning and get a taxi back they are cheap depite all the moaning you will see on the Forum.

An 8 year old would love it

Regards

Misty

If you go to holidaylettings.co.uk you will find lots of apartments for Kalkan, along with their availability and prices for next year. This site also has an accomodation section.

Hiya n.t.k.  Dalaman is the airport you will come into, the transfer time is around 1hr 45mins (approx £100 return).pasha apts are very good and a short walk out of the centre, and you will be well looked after. also the samira hotel/apts are very good and they are in centre.I have been in kalkan in may, july and the end of oct, compared to other places kalkan doesnt seem to get that busy. never been with a 8 year old so cant say,but seems to be plenty with young children.Kalkan is slightly hilly, but I wouldnt say that I am that fit,and after a few Efes I can still handle the steep bits in town(the triick is to zigzag) Neil.

No sandy beaches, unless you take a 20 minute bus to Patara or Kaputash if that is important to your 8 year old.

we are going to Kalkan in august with our 9 and 12 year old staying at the Korsan Apartments. We are sure we will all have a fantastic time
we will have a pool ,the pebbly town beach (with beach shoes on) and we will do the canoe trip to Patara as well as visiting a couple of the beach clubs. Like you we haven''t been before (apart from me back packing 25 years ago) but we have good feelings about the holiday

Hi Hilary I''m absolutely certain that good feeling will continue the entire time you''re in Kalkan. If you''ve not been for 25 years you''ll be staggered by the changes but sure you''ll have a wonderful time with the whole family. The children should really enjoy the beach clubs. Patara beach and a trip to the gorge maybe combined with going "down river"

Fly to Dalaman
Private transfer will take about 1hr 15 min. with the new road open.
Small resort, not like Bodrum and Marmaris.
Good food and friendly people
Samira Hotel apartments, close to town and nice staff.

A little while ago there where rumours that the Turkish PM would be opening the new road at the end of June - any sign of him teuning up yet.

not too much of a thread diversion, so please allow; Hilary, if you back-packed Kalkan 25 years ago, some photos if you took them could be quite interesting.  Another member posted some 1983-1984 photos which were very interesting.  Just a thought.   Sure you''ll enjoy yourself just the same.  Bill
