Hi,

Your "dongle" will work, but not as a "3G" service but as a GPRS Data service which will be very costly and slower. The 3 network partner with Turkcell for data access (Telsim and Aria for voice and sms) but there is no special arrangement for discount costs etc as far as I know so the costs will be....

Voice to UK and Turkey - 80p per min outgoing, 30p per min incoming
Voice to other countries - £1.60 per min outgoing, 30 per min incoming

Text Message - 25p to send, free to recieve

Data (ie your dongle, web access on your mobile) - £3 per megabyte!

If I were you, unless essential go to an internet cafe or wi-fi zone!

Hi
condition of holiday: take laptop and trumpet.
but we dont want to lug laptops around internet cafe's if we can avoid it, so is is at all possible to 'work from holiday home' ? We are spending a week  in Kaya Koy and a week in Kalkan.
Whats the best way to get on line? Mobile connection? Dongle? iPhone? help!

You will find some private villas/apartments and hotels have wifi - just check the details before you book and only stay somewhere that has this facility if you don't fancy taking the lap top to one of the wifi bars

Hi KK4E,
Great advice, but no joy as traveling from Cardiff which means we have a Monday change over day, so limited choice of accommodation. Also factor in that we need somewhere fairly separate from neighbors as husband takes trumpet on hols (for practice) ... so one thing kind of cancels out the other!
internet cafe it is! Have seen the posting from Blackberry Bill - horrifying connection charges! Will be taking his advice too.
Thanks everyone for speedy input.

Just for info, I was told the week before last that either Turkcell or Avia were/have introduced/ing a Pay As You Go 3G dongle. Unfortunately, didn't have time/forgot to check it out at the phone shops in the village. 200tl was mentioned as the dongle cost.
Do any members have an update on this

When we were in Kalkan last month someone told us you could get a pay as you go dongle from a shop down by the harbour and the cost was around about £10. We didn't check it out either as we found the Wifi at Palm beach or Parc Kalkan suited us.
