There are two Ali Baba restaurants in Kalkan. Which is the one that everyone seems to like?!!
-
We like the one on the left just opposite and up abit from Reef on the road up to the petrol station. The owner does all our transfers etc great guy and the food is fantastic....his rooftop might not have the best views but he really looks after you when you are there.
-
I prefer the one near the roundabout, great food, great staff,I always use bayram for my tranfers, the one down the road(the soup kitchen)is a bit more basic but the foods good and its pretty cheap,my friend, who is a local, loves the chicken soup, with a splash of vinegar ? Neil. >:D
-
Are we talking the same one here I forgot about the roundabout ????
There is a grape vine runing through the downstairs area ???
-
Ali Babas soup kitchen - where all the locals also eat - just near the Deli deli Tomato - you can''t beat the food and the value!!
-
I''m getting confused now.......
-
The owner is called Mustafa.....he his wife had just had a baby last August...we took presents out for them....boy did I get a large complimentry brandy that night !!!
-
Ali baba soup kitchen a bit furhter down with Doyum and Odak restaurants over the top near the PTT office just before the Tomato Deli deli.. great place.
Other Ali baba just up the market road - same side as Kaya just up a bit further with grape vine and a nice roof terrace...nice place - but obviously more than the soup kitchen..!!
Hope that helps - Misty..!! Try the soup kitchen - if you haven''t - half of kalkan (locals and tourists) eat there!!
-
Felicity....is that Turkish for the font of all knowledge... :) :) :) :)
Many thanks we will try that and another one we all walk past looking the other way is Omar''s Kitchen but I''m reading good reviews so that on my list for August...
-
hi misty, yes, thats the one, with the grapevine down stairs, about 50 mts up from the roundabout. Neil.
-
Great I have a table booked for 7 on the 11th of August.........and counting the days...
-
if you are going to the little local ali babas(near PTT) try not to use the loo if you are a lady..it''s not very nice for men ,let alone you girlies..but the food is cheap and good..i go for a beer and try to listen to the locals to improve my turkish..it''s not working!! ::)
-
Never used the loo at the "soup kitchen" mr lizard, better not drink as many Efes in future. Neil. >:D
-
it''s better to pop down the steps over the road to the public ones .. the ali babas ones are like a dirty tardis.... ::)
-
Complete with lots of wierd little critters I bet. ;D
-
no i go to the public ones over the road... ;D ;D
-
Never been in there long enough to use the loos (thank god!) - food is pretty quick at being served - so I''ll just have to make a dash to the IBO loos...best on earth..!! ;) ;)
-
there was a thread on toilets last year...i only mentioned this particular one because somebody said it was good value food..which it is...it is however a basic place as you will know,i would hate for a female to have to use what can be described as a "grotty potty" wilthout being forewarned..i shall still go for an Efes or three there ;)
-
Hey BL thanks for the warning. If the loo''s are horrible it doesn''t matter to me how good the food is I just won''t eat there.
-
I use the ladies'' there and it''s not so bad. It''s not great but at least it''s fairly clean and doesn''t pong.
-
Regarding the loos in Ali Babas. They do the job and most British loos are a lot worse! Phil
