Title: Kalkan 2020 Lift Off?
Post by: alantj on July 01, 2020, 10:03:54 PM
It looks like Kalkan will have a season, or at least half a season, after all

Over the past 2 weeks we have received or has uncancelled 7 bookings. Our first guests of the season are arriving on Saturday.

We still have 2 weeks in August (15th to the 31st) available via EOS travel if anyone is looking or a 6 bed villa.

By all accounts Kalkan is having quite a good season with many Turkish tourists enjoying their holidays. The Migros supermarkets are packed which is the norm. The restaurants & bars may not be packed out but some villa owners are clapping their hands.  Foreign tourists are  also slowly arriving.

Very good if our villa is any guide. We now have 11 bookings and apart from 1 week in August are full, with just gaps of a few days left between bookings.

If the foreign tourists want to visit this year they need to hurry up and book otherwise they will miss out. Even next year is starting to fill up with 4 bookings in July and August.

The fact that the Turkish tourists don't have to fly obviously is an advantage over foreign ones. Also many tourists living in places such as Germany, Denmark also drive into Turkey, over recent years that has been very noticable in areas such as Kalkan & Kas.
The uncertainty of flying out from the UK sadly has caused problems for many,  booked flights cancelled/moved just a small example.

Lets hope that life gets back to some normality soon, without so many conflicting/confusing reports & issues from various areas.

Fingers crossed, we should be arriving on the 4th October for 2 weeks.

It would be good to get a report or two from any early arrivals.

We are due to fly out on 11 Aug, 3 weeks today with EJ. Wouldn't normally go this time of year but these replace our May flights. Unfortunately family now can't come so just us. Hopefully these flights will go ahead.

2  I am getting the suitcases out - although still a few weeks to go!  Just makes it feel more real somehow.   Having not been able to go as planned in June I was beginning to think it wouldn't be possible at all this year.   The flights were booked last year.   Discovered last week that our flight out had been cancelled although we had received no notification.  Fortunately was able to go on a different flight a couple of days early.   Maybe just as well we had cancellations earlier so our place was free for an early arrival.

We had cancellations (deferrals to 2021) for the period up to beginning of September but then previous guests took advantage of the cancellations and are going out for a couple of weeks in August.

So now it is a question of things like "does my swimming costume still fit?"   Confirming the kennel booking for our dog etc    It all feels as if it will really happen now.
