Title: Starling Bank / N26
Post by: Enjoy Kalkan on September 14, 2019, 10:39:05 AM
Hi All,

Im not sure which banks everyone uses, I used to always used take my Halifax Clarity card with me but it was a pain to get cash out of an ATM as they charged as it was a credit card.

I switched banks to Starling to avoid such fees but found that lots of banks in Kalkan still try and charge for taking cash out even in Lira... Avoid the DenizBank by Sade at all costs!

So for those that may bank with Starling or N26, tip of the day is use TEB Bank which was always free to withdraw cash :)

Thank you Jon, I also have a Starling account but don't tend to withdraw cash but I'll bear this in mind. You never know when you might need to withdraw extra cash. I have used the card in Kalkan to pay for items and get a very good rate and no problems using it.

Thanks for the tip, Jon. I use my Halifax Clarity card but was having problems last year trying to withdraw TL from the ATM under the Samira. I used the ATM just above Yali supermarket on the left and it worked fine.

Can you tell me where TEB is?

I also take my Nationwide CC as a backup.

Just hope I'm not stung with transaction fees this year.

Thanks,
chillout

TEB Bank is just by Denizbank in what I call Yali square (Im sure its got a proper name!) Its the big white set of buildings a bit up from Lime Bar.

Its the only bank that didn't try and sting me with a fee for the pleasure of using their machine :)

Another tip is to use the Curve debit card which is a 'wallet' for other debit and credit cards. No charges/fees and it can often be used to get cash from your credit card without it being seen as a cash advance! PM me for a referral code we'll each get £5 as a 'reward' for setting it up. Promise will donate these to charity :)

Update on using the Revolut card for taking out YTL 1250 from ATM

1. TEB wanted YTL 21 fee
2. Isbank wanted YTL 25 fee
3. AKbank wanted 6.99% = YTL 87: Extortionate!
4. ING Bank, Orange Kiosk in front of NUR hotel: FREE

The Dutchman used ING, of course...

AKBank ATMs ask if you want to pay a transaction fee. Just say NO!

That's for the tip about ING it saved us a few quid on our recent visit. Although I wonder how long it will last, as all of the banks we used to use have now started charging.

AKbank still no charges today drawing TL using a Starling Card and saying NO to their exchange rate and NO to their charges.
