Title: La Maison Gold - new jewellers
Post by: felicity on April 25, 2008, 10:08:26 PM
For all you Jackdaws out there (men and women!) - there is a NEW jewellers just opened in kalkan called ''La Maison Gold'' - down near the harbour - just opposite Cafe del Mar and the Ivy restaurant.  They specialise in bespoke designed jewellery, made in a very short time by their in-house goldsmith and are also diamond specialists....  Run by a lovely ''larger than life'' character called Malcolm - they are very friendly and helpful and seem to be doing very well - they can be reached on 0242 844 2972.

They are well worth a visit and a browse!

Happy shopping!  ;)

Hi Kevincat99 - no not advertising from me - just giving information - letting everybody know about a new shop that has opened - in the same vein as being alerted to the new boutique Victoria (can''t picture where that one is though... ???) and new restaurants open etc etc... :)

Cheers!

Looks like we''ll have plenty of choice now Felicity. Yardon wrote to us earlier this year to say he was opening Diamente near enough opposite Infinity where he used to work. Might make prices a bit more competitive, although I''m not sure all of them will be able to make a living?

Hey Felicity
has the new jewellers opened up in what used to be the shop that sold gorgeous towels - that was opposite Cafe del Mar I recall? It would be useful to know as I bought some lovely beach towels there last year and was hoping to do the same this year.

Yes - in theory - more competition - lower prices - although I haven''t bought enough in any of these shops to know whether that will be the case or not...but either way lots of lovely choice..!!  Oh and Blue Lizard - before you ask - you can always wait while shakira shops in the Cafe del mar and have some of their delicious apple pie!!  :o

mmmm - can''t recall a towel shop down there - and to be honest - I can''t remember what was there before LaMaisonGold....durrrhhh - memory not what it used to be...LOL!!  But you could be right - it could be one and the same shop....this new jewellers is sort of on a corner of a small ''junction'' and the next shop down sells plates and knick knacks and hanging thingys.....if that helps anybody to picture it....and if the ''towel'' shop has been superceded..!!  :)

Sounds like it was the towel shop... :( We would go in Cafe Del Mar most nights and I would always go in and have a look round because the Turkish towels are such lovely quality and I wanted to buy loads. I bought some lovely beach towels and some fabulous hand towels in there last year....gutted!!!!

Can anyone recommend a nice towel shop in Kalkan???

more precisely the new gold shop has opened in what was mina art, a few shops uphill and across the road from cafe del mar and the ivy. mina art has moved across the road and up one, right across from the new gold place is the tailor (m&b) who was opp cafe set/salt and pepper.
the towel shop opposite cafe del mar is now part of a new restaurant due to open early may, la terrazza. there will be a downstairs cafe and an upstairs roof terrace restaurant, all run by paula and metin from zekis and following an italian theme. this is an addition to zekis, so sticky toffee pudding fans will not be disappointed.
p.s. i think last year the restaurant there was a la turka.

there has been a restaurant on the terrace above the towel shop for several years so it is not adding to the numbers. the old towel shop is simply an extension of the upstairs. i am sure all zekis fans wish paula and metin every success with la Terrazza.

I have long regarded Zekis as being in the top 5 for quality of food. What it doesn''t have is a view to go with this,so la Terrazza should have both. Can''t wait till June to try it.
