Title: Monarch
Post by: kalkan4eva on September 30, 2016, 07:54:01 PM
Bit of a worrying time for those of us who have booked Monarch flights for next year. Keeping one eye on the news.... :-\

We're also booked with Monarch for next June. Not at all worried as the flights are ATOL protected so will get a refund if they do fail. Only challenge will be finding alternative flights at the same cost and flight times. Whatever happens we will get to Kalkan and not allow this unfortunate situation to cause us any stress.

kalkan4eva.....it is worth checking the CAA website to see the process for making a claim if the worst case scenario comes to fruition.

We are booked on Monarch for next year..i said never again after they mucked our flight times about this year and even changed the day..we cancelled but after a rubbish Easyjet flight of delays and delivering us to the wrong terminal etc(suppose we should be grateful the airport was the right one!) we were tempted by monarchs day flight for the same price we payed for EJ flights....latest this morning is Monarch have been granted an extension to its licence to sell holidays(current one ran out at midnight) and it plans to announce it's biggest ever investment in the "near future" having secured funds from shareholders...wether that's BS or not who knows? ::)

We fly Monarch because they go out of Brum and have never let us down. Going out this September the flight was only half full but arrived half an hour early and was an excellent flight. Coming back flight was full but again bang on time and arrived five minutes early.
We have booked already for next year and cost us about the same price as this.
Hopefully all will be settled soon. I have every confidence in them er I think.

The ATOL protection only covers you if:
Outside these three events, ATOL doesn't cover you.  It'll be down to the Credit Card / Debit Card that you used.

That said, Monarch are reported to be in profit, for the second year running, and the company that owns Hainen Airlines are interested in a stake.  The current stories are focused on the cash reserve that Monarch need to retain the ATOL rating - they could potentially transfer the ATOL certificate to Monarch Holidays (née Cosmos) and let them handle the packages, while Monarch just do flights, where ATOL is not really a necessity.

Note that the 90% shareholder of Monarch is a Venture Capital company (Greybull), and we all know what the main interest for those companies is, don't we?
