Hi all, on our next trip we're going to need to make a few calls to home, some of them to a uk mobile....I appreciate the best way is probably by getting a phone card....I just wondered where the best place to purchase these is and how long roughly do they last?...any help would be appreciated.

Best way is to call via whatsapp all you need is wifi and it's totally free, there is plenty of wifi around in all of the bars and restaurants if you don't have at your accommodation.

Buy a phone card from the Post office (PTT) and use in the phones outside. Start off with a 10 lira card and see how far it goes. Calls are pretty cheap when using these cards.
However I agree with Chrissy, if you are able to access wifi and you can get your recipient in Uk to download the WhatsApp app then it won't cost you anything.

You can also skype if you have a tablet & wifi is everywhere.

Agree with most of the above but be aware that WiFi connected phone calls can be of very variable quality and very often can be difficult to hear each other. I just got back last night and used my O2 mobile with one of their "bolt ons" £3.99 a day for unlimited data and hours of phone calls. You only pay for the days you use and runs from midnight to midnight. Was well worth it for me to keep in touch with my 86 year old mum. I'm sure other providers will have something similar

If you have a BT landline, at home, you can use BT Smart Talk. Calls cost the same as if you were calling from home. The benefit is you can call landlines and mobiles without them being connected to Internet. Works great for us when we are in Kalkan. We also use FaceTime and Skype for video calls with family. WhatsApp is great for pictures and text but call quality not too good.

Virgin have a similar system to BT if you download the app you can use mobile phone as if it your home phone as long as you are connected to the WiFi. It will alert you if there is no WiFi access.
