Hi guys and gals
Just thought I'd let you know that I think I've been the target of an attempted phishing scam. I got an enquiry from David Brown. He asked me to email him via his personal email address, which I did. He seemed to be asking 'normal' questions and then he emailed to say he and his partner had decided they'd like to go ahead and that I should click on his Drop Box link 'to see his passport, insurance and other important services'! Which I thought was very strange.
I went back to him and said I didn't use drop box and that I didn't need to see any documents and never heard any more from him. My husband is a bit of a tech expert and when he hovered on the link he said it wasn't right.
I've reported it to OD. I know I prob shouldn't have emailed him but with the OD charges, I've been intercepting the enquires. I'll be more careful in future.
So just thought it was worth mentioning.

I've had a few similar enquiries and sadly it has made me very cautious with bookings. Happily I had an enquiry last night and have booked a week at the end of the season.

Yes it's made me very nervous now.
Great news re the end of season booking though! ;)

I had someone ring my published contact number claiming to be from Tripadvisor/Holiday Lettings and asking if the property was still available due to a problem with their payment system.
The Indian accent and background noise aroused my suspicions and they were calling from a retired 0203 number which used to be a very old number for HL but no longer.
Still have not worked out what their scam was as didn't stay on long enough to find out their next steps.
Anyone had similar?
Jon

As stated in a previous thread, NEVER reply to personal emails included in OD enquiries. They are all scams! Another only through the OD website. Then you'll not hear from the scammer again.

Thanks for the advice Cosetta - I'm pretty new to this game and I just get "excited" when I get an enquiry ;D!!!
I won't use my email in future - I've learnt! Luckily it hasn't done any damage.

Hi Jon, I have never had any actual telephone calls that I can remember that were scams. I had one lady a few yearsvagonringing me from Romania and I instantly thought it was a scam. It wasn't and the guest has stayed with us every year since! It's unfortunate that the scammers put you instantly on your guard for genuine people.

I have had a slightly different version. I had a short e-mail from, it appeared, one of our previous guests. There was a link to click on and I thought it might be a photo or an article. The e-mail address was not the one he had previously used. I e-mailed him on his previous contact to query it and big surprise it was not from him at all. Obviously I then deleted it.
Maybe the scammer did me a favour as the real previous guest in his reply said dates permitting he was thinking of coming again in 2017 (he had not been this year).
