Title: Best cocktails ?
Post by: Lucy Lou on July 10, 2016, 04:08:35 PM
I know it can be very subjective but was hugely disappointed with Botanick this year.  Babs if you find this thread don't know about change of bar staff but owner was in when we went so I'd have thought he knew how the drinks were being made  :-\

Had very nice Kir Royale & Bellini in Cafe Leon & Merkez respectively but don't think they're cocktail bar ambience.  Loved the quirkiness of Botanick.  Black & Gold were as good as reported on here but you'd not get drunk the time they take to prepare the presentations.  Maybe that's a good thing

May try Fountain next trip as had not gone there out of loyalty to Nam when he only got the single season before opening Botanick but again reports here are that it's very good.  Would I know who runs it from previous establishments they've had ?

Any other recommendations ?

We don't do cocktails so can't really comment. Does Efes, G&T or wine count?

Black & Gold is lovely .. Nice setting very friendly.
And they work really hard to make your evening special.
I also went to Marleys and I have to say I was really supprized
They made us so welcome and the drinks was very very good.
Will certainly be going back on my next trip ..

Ooh quite fancy there & closer to hotel than Old town or harbour area.  Back for a week in early September.  Must make list then I don't forget all my great plans like usual.

I think my favourite cocktails were at Jimmys (Yakamoz) this year. I like my cocktails without too much frippery - just serve me the drink, don't make it OTT. Black and Gold...there's just too much going on. Botanik's cocktails were not as strong as previous years but no frippery at least. We are loyal to Nam and as a result we have never been to Fountain because of the history, but the cocktails in Botanik were expensive this year compared to other bars...and as I say, not as strong. Just my opinion.

Had amazing cocktails at Cosmopolitan on Kalamar Rd. Probably best-known I've ever had and we were made to feel so welcome x

Kalkan4eva,

If they were just not as strong or more expensive than other places, if they were still as tasty & good as last year I'd be happy !  But as I said the Bellini which had been in a big round wine glass might have only had a smidgeon of cava in & mainly that very thick peach juice they do last year was this year a colourless, tasteless, frozen sludge in a small martini glass.  He's lost a previously loyal & keen customer.

Lucy Lou give marleys a try it is indeed next to Kaya and up the stairs, don't let the entrance put you off, once upstairs it's lovely and so friendly, they told us their cocktails are made with good spirits not cheap nasty stuff and I think you can tell they are. Check out their Facebook page (Marleys cafe and cocktail bar)
