Where is the best place to buy fashionable clothes and accessories in Kalkan? I understand there are quite a few boutiques there now. Thanks
-
My wife and daughters would say that Vessila & Brako is very good, it''s underneath Ibo''s Restaurant, I know I seem to spend hours hanging around there waiting.
-
thats me sat on the little plastic chairs ouside!! ;)
-
Melissa next to Baykush has some trendy stuff too.
-
Vassila & Brako a firm favourite here. Clothes are a bit like Boden, Per Una and Monsoon but so much cheaper. They change their stock daily it comes from Istanbul. They never hassle you to buy, and you can spend as long as you like just browsing. Good range of sizes and if you buy anything when you return to U.K. people will always ask ''where did you get that?'' Well worth a visit ....... or 2..... or 3........or.................lots and lots!!
-
What sort of sizes do they do, and are they quite generous in length of tops and skirts etc?
I know i cant expect a 36 inch leg in trousers and jeans....''Jean'' spent a whole week trying to find some as he was convinced he could find something the right length for us! ;)
-
There must be some, last year a friend who was staying with us managed to spend £200 in the time it took the rest of us to have a beer (just the one) by the harbour.
As to the tall sizes, I am fortunate in having a 6ft2in wife who invariably cannot find anything that fits in Kalkan - handbags excepted.
Regards
Alan
-
Oooh, handbags sound good!
Jewellery is my passion in Kalkan.
I reckon Mr B would really have something to moan about if i started with clothes, so i''ll just have to remind him how lucky he is that i''m 6ft4in and unable to find any clothes long enough! ;D
-
You could always have something made to measure in Kalkan. There are several places that will make you tops, trousers etc. and you know that they will fit you perfectly. ;)
-
What a great idea Joan.
Do you have any reccomendations as i wouldnt have a clue where to start looking.
Thanks. :)
-
mrs lizard had some leather trousers made in the village..they were very nice!! :D
-
I cannot make a personal recommendation but I think there maybe a couple of adverts in the Lycian Advertiser, just follow the links on the main home page. We shall require a picture of you in the finished articles though. ;D
-
blimey blue lizard - how many of your ''skins'' did it take to make the trousers...?? I hope that you got them made up just the cost of the making up with you supplying the skins..LOL!!.. ;D ;D
-
we were told by the taylor "sheeps made it"...my lizardy skin is to tough for a comfortable pair of kecks!!..and besides they would have to catch me.....whooooosh!!
-
A pair of leather trousers!
Now, that would be enough to set Mr B''s pulse racing
And it would make my tall buddies very jealous!!!
Cheers Joan...will take a look and count up the pennies ready for a wardrobe make over. :)
Will i have to reveal my face and identity in the pics, though, or do you think i will be instantly recognisable in Kalkan by my fab wardrobe and my ''enjoy kalkan'' badge...not to mention my ability to stand up in the sea where everyone else has to tread water?! :o
-
The man on the left going down the hill, just before you reach merkez cafe makes clothes(fabrics & textiles)he sits outside at night with family and cats..Kalkan regulars will know him,his name is Halil, you will see him walking around with a large grey beard and a bandana on his head..he is a lovely man.He is trained in Ottoman style tailoring and is top notch...he has made shirts for me and mighty fine they are too...if you have a favourite he will copy it or tell him what you want he will draw it and give you a price ;)
-
Hey blue lizard - I never knew that was his name..he is a lovely friendly man...but I didn''t know how good his english is...is it good enough to converse about what you want made..??
-
Hi Felicity...he isn''t fluent in english but knows enough to be understood..a little bit of descriptive hand jestering and pointing may be needed..pen and paper drawing...but he has got everything spot on so far.... ;)
-
His daughter, who is often in the shop speaks excellent English. Sorry, I can''t remember her name.
-
you have started us off now!! me and mrs are trying to guess her name ::)
-
Cheers Blue Lizard...will definately call in on him when we go back to Kalkan.
Just have to decide what i want making!! :D
-
I''ve bought a few pairs of off-the-peg trousers from Halil which he shortened at no extra charge and last summer he made a lovely long top for me. I thought he was just going to do an alteration but it turned out that he made it from scratch so it was perfect for me. There''s also Tailor Yousef on the same street.
-
Sorry, blue lizard - what is annoying me & the O/H is we know it, but can''t remember it.
Suspect I''ll wake up at 4am and get it ;D
-
now look what youv''e done..if mrs lizard wakes me up at 4 to tell me her name she will be coming to live with you!! :o
-
Just think of the savings to be made though Blue Lizard! You could breeze past Affinity Jewellers, sneak by Vessilo and Brako, oh and forget the tailors en-route....Instead you could organise Effes Stops. Indeed you could find a new life as the official ''Kalkan Effes Lizard'' helping to re-hydrate the new visitors who arrive (and existing customers of course).
Sorry Mrs Lizard, I didn''t really mean it..............
-
I am very tempted to have something made up for myself. I have often looked at the "signs" advertising their services. I think there is another tailors up the side of "V and Bs?
-
now look what youv''''e done..if mrs lizard wakes me up at 4 to tell me her name she will be coming to live with you!! :o
Sorry BL - no room at the inn for Mrs BL! :D
-
If you want great fitting jeans, then go to the jeans shop Eagle the ower will always pick out the perfect fit and does alterations free.
-
Where is Eagle, please?
-
I think Halil''s daughter at Tufanlar tailors is called Asena
-
Zelma''s opposite what used to be Zeyno''s also has some lovely clothes. Not sure if she makes clothes but I do know she does alterations etc. I bought a beautiful, unusual dress from there for my neices wedding and everyone was asking me where I got it from.
-
''Zelma'' is actually called Belma and the shop is called Belma''s boutique. She has a wide range of off the peg clothes and will make to order any design, she is very skilled and reasonably priced.
Lantana
-
Ooops sorry Lantana and every one else. It is indeed Belma''s. I think the typo occured because I was thinking of Zeyno''s. (If that makes sense!) Good to know Belma makes clothes too. When I went in to look for a dress she picked out my exact size without measuring me. I always pop in to have a browse and say hello.
-
She is a very nice lady and i have bought beautiful table cloths and wraps fom her. Everything is very individual and she is very knowleable on how to make good designs. If you were to go to such a specialist in England or Europe, the costs would be much greater.
I think the quality and sevice Belma offers, are worth every penny. You need to go in and have a look around at what she can offer. She will not ''pester'' you or try to ''sell''. What you will get is the benefit of the individuality and quality of her designs and materials.
Do go.
-
Couldn''t agree more Kim. It was so nice to go to my neices wedding and not have that "Hope no-one else is wearing the same outfit as me" fear!
I have a couple of dresses that need altering so I will take them to Belma''s.
