Title: Trips with elderly mother ideas please
Post by: annie the tourist on June 13, 2015, 07:53:35 AM
Hi all am coming back to kalkan on the 19th but this time bringing my 83yr old lovely mum, have been extolling the many virtues of kalkan for years and she has finally agreed to come and see what we rave about. Most of the time we will be taking it easy enjoying the wonderful views, good food and the sunshine, but thought a day out might be nice, any suggestions for a nice relaxing not to physical day out?
Thanks :)

I would have loved the chance to bring my lovely late Mum and Dad to Kalkan - they would have lapped it up. For a relaxing day out, you could try a boat trip - there will be plenty of shade at the back of the boat for your mum to sit and relax as she watches the stunning scenery go by, and it's not compulsory to go swimming of course. Or you could try the Kaya BBQ trip to their village in Bezirgan - not too far away. I love the way locals and businesses look after and respect older people. Whether you are 9 or 90 you are never 'invisible' in Kalkan.

I second the Kaya barbeque trip. A fun but relaxing day. I'll be going again at the beginning of next month.

The sea around Kalkan might be rough and windy sometimes. A boat trip may be unsuitable for an elder person and therefore once she is aboard and sail with other people, she can't probably ask to turn the boat back if she feels uncomfortable. Kekova is perhaps better for her during a boat trip, because its shoreline offers better protection from wind and there are better chances of calm sea. Driving by car from Kas to Kaleüçağız and Kekova Yat Limanı also offers views of pristine spots. The small village of Sahilkılınçlı should give you a good idea of the rural Turkey and how the real Turkey was or it may have been without tourism.

My old dad used to love a boat trip from Kalkan. He loved the views, chatting to others and the lunch. If she has mobility issues however the toilets can be a bit inaccessible. He also used to like saklikent gorge, just walking into it and watching people going into the water followed by the original yaka park for a late lunch.
