Just thought if you plan to hire a car in Turkey you may need to be aware of the new DVLA rules which apply from June 8th

Its just worth noting down your national insurance number if you do get asked as you can apply for the code from anywhere in the world. When we have hired a car from Abi Travel in the past we have always handed in both parts of the licence, but not sure if they've asked or we just assumed both parts were needed.
Although you've never been asked in the past it doesnt mean to say you won't in the future and its always good to be prepared.

Were none of you in the Scouts...? :-*

I hired a car last week didn't need to show it .. they are so laid back re car hire.
In all the times Ive hired a car they never even check it for damage ... bit different from UK.

The last few times I have picked up a car from Dalaman airport I wasn't even asked for my licence never mind the paper part etc. Cannot see them bothering checking codes any time soon

Nobody's interested in the paper part, because, as far as I know, nobody in the world uses a similar system; thus they don't know they should ask for it!

The paper part only came into being because the old driving licence (the book type, for those old enough), had the endorsements stuck into it be the courts; hence the record being obvious if the Police stopped you.

If you go to the USA, for years many Police officers believed that the 'Endorsement' was what it said, an Endorsement of how good you were!  They viewed, as in atypical US English, that it was the reverse to that intended, and was a compliment to driving standards.

I've never been asked for my paper counterpart, the first one stayed in my wallet for so long it disintegrated when I changed my wallet.  It was a flawed idea conjured up by some Orwellian official.

Apart from any thing else, not many here would be able to translate it either,  including the traffic police. But putting that aside, it doesn't mean they won't start at some time checking, they love anew regulation ;)
