KTLN reports that the 6 units damaged by fire have been given the go ahead for redevelopment(only the 6 damaged) this is currently being put out to tender and should be completed and up and running by the tourist season.Great news for the owners who lost so much in the fire and I'm sure they will put individual designs and décor to a high standard as so many of Kalkans restaurants have done..Would be good if we had a camera so we could watch /panic/moan or praise while this was in progress like when the road outside PTT etc was being done.
Thanks to KTLN for keeping folk informed too! ;)

great news...so pleased to hear this

That's brilliant news, thanks for sharing and I agree, a camera would be the icing on the cake! It would keep us lot going over the dreary winter months. :)
-
What fabulous news, am so happy to hear that too! Will be there at the end of March, so will be able to take a few photos and report back how the building is getting on :)

Great news....but how are they going to put it out to tender and still be ready for the start of the season? Am I being a cynic? Is that even spelt right?
-
This is turkey, everything IS possible in every way.
-
I hope so DRBD as it must be a real worry for those who have owned and worked in those businesses for years.
-
Babs........its if it is done the correct way.
-
looking at the plans, I suspect the rents will go through the roof, which will have to be passed on to customers of course
-
. I guess the customers will pay in the long run, but i remind myself that a night out at Mussaka, whilst probably one of the most expensive of the holiday is still cheaper than popping into Nandos ...and i know where i'd rather be!

I was down at the beach today, gathering odd pieces of driftwood following the storms, and noticed a team of workers clearing out Sea Port. I tried not to stare, but it was heartbreaking to see everything - piles of plates, dishes, cooking pots - all being carried out completely black. Looking back at the row of burnt out restaurants, the original stone structures - soon to be replaced - still looked beautiful in a way. I do hope hope the rebuild is in keeping with the character of the rest of the town and not some attempt at 'contemporary chic'. Just my opinion.
-
Definitely agree with you Christina, we were there over New Year and whilst it was heartbreaking to see the damage caused by the fire, I was hoping the stone structures could be saved as this is part of the character of the Old Town. I cannot see that the new drawings/impressions as shown on KTLN are an addition to the area - no doubt all will become clear - eventually!

Haybo: re "but i remind myself that a night out at Mussaka, whilst probably one of the most expensive of the holiday is still cheaper than popping into Nandos ...and i know where i'd rather be! " ::::: Fully agree , local restaurant I frequent in Leeds is about £80 for two persons X 3 courses with 2 cheap bottles of wine, very good value, so decent restaurants in Kalkan although about same price , when talking location and ambience into account are much better value , PS also appreciate most places in Kalkan much cheaper than £80 , but most top notch ones are about that price range. I paid £150 at Aubergines in Sep as a treat for OH ,anniversary - 2 X 5 course in the end with a few bottles of relay nice wine - fabulous value , if I had been in London it would have been double for the quality we had
-
Well said! I get a bit tired sometimes of people who complain about the cost of dining out in Kalkan and I just think that you have to compare like for like. Yes, you pay a little more for a seafront restaurant but then, you'd expect to! Considering the quality of the service and the ingredients, not to mention the atmosphere and the view, Kalkan prices compare very favourably indeed with those in the U.K.
-
They also compare very favourably with similar locations in other parts of the world. The cost of eating out with an amzing sea view and lovely food in the South of France, for example is pretty eye watering...and the service is nowhere near as good.... IMO

Please keep on topic and consider stating a new thread comparing cost of eating out in different places.
Cheers
