Title: Residents concerns
Post by: Anne on November 14, 2014, 03:50:07 PM
Flash flooding down by the gully in the old town, there was a deluge of water and rocks from the D400 and the Kisla Caddesi.  Apartments and villas flooded, lucky we were here with our wet and dry vac to suck up the water as it came through our front door.  New door needed to keep the water out but it would be even better if something was done with drainage for the Kisla Caddesi to prevent the flooding

While developers continue to build more properties Kalkans infrastructure is now failing as a result. It is little surprise to see the chaos caused by the recent downpours when large chunks of the moutains are being stripped of all natural defences and replaced by concrete. The authorities appear to allow buildings to be constructed without any requirement or thought for water, drainage, electricity, roads, etc, etc. The solution is simple - get developers to pay for this infrastructure as part of their development. It cannot all be take, take, take. Something must be put back.

I agree with happy days. Looks like critical mass has already been reached and the town is now at tipping point. I imagine that planning for the current new build projects was granted by the previous administration - when I'm told that some developers managed to 'persuade' officials to release lucrative plots of previously protected rural land in order to build new properties with unrivalled views in enviable locations. Let's hope the new administration gets a grip on these serious planning issues before further irreparable damage is done. It's been said before, but considering that Kalkan is branded as a desirable, up-market destination, from my experience over the past couple of years, the roads/traffic situation plus the reliability of a supply of basic utilities is getting worse, not better.

We have split the Topic "Kalkan out of Season Updates" thread and started this new one, as the points raised are of more concern for people living in Kalkan than for tourists who just want a "Kalkan fix" to get through the Winter months. We hope that you can raise your concerns and worries with the Authorities in Kas and get some answers/actions that you cannot get from a Holiday Forum. Thanks.

I have to disagree with your comments EK Moderator, this not just a problem for residents it is also a concern for all property owners & tourists, there are far more of them than there are residents living here.

Agree DRBD, and many of those who own villas but do not live in Kalkan found that their villas were flooded during the recent storms.  Hopefully all of them have property managers looking after the unoccupied villas, otherwise, as a friend said "What a mess!" (of mud and water)

Thanks for your backing Cosetta & sadly we know that some of the property managers are not around all the time to be able to check the properties they are responsible for at such times.
