Is anyone aware of a change in the rules - apparently some time ago
Supposedly a letter was sent out by SGK saying that anyone in receipt of a UK State Pension should register seperately with SGK and pay their own premiums
Which would mean that a married couple should now be paying two premiums
Is this correct or have I been misinformed ?

Have you checked this on ktln assuming it's up to date.

Hi
Thanks for that reply an I note what it says
But having contacted some people in Kalkan no one seems to be paying the 2 premiums for a retired couple
So now what to do next - ask SGK or keep quiet and find you are not covered??

K99 We went to the SGK office in July to make enquiries re us getting insurance, they said that we must produce a copy of our marriage cert, this we have done duly translated etc., & taken out the insurance. Had a big problem trying to make payments but it seems having been to the SGK office with a Turkish friend very recently who translated for us, it was explained that there had been a system problem & we are it seems are both insured. Still not 100% convinced all is correct but apart from going over it all again accepted they had us insured, we make one payment per month which is in husbands name.
All very confusing but hope that helps.................

DRBD thanks for that but we have been in SGK for two years + now as a married couple
However I recently found out that if you are both in receipt of a UK State pension you must both join in your own right and pay two premiums
This seems to definitely the case in Mugla province where apparently everyone in the scheme received a letter to this effect
However here in Antalya province people seem not to realise this
Having said that we have been to the ESNAF and when they say do you have insurance we having been saying yes and had treatment without a problem
My concern is that one day we will go with the more serious (I.e. expensive) problem only to find my wife is not covered and this is a chance we do not really want to take
On the Turkish local news site there we as an article dated February this year and it seems quite clear as to what the rules are
If it comes to the crunch as to whether people are covered or not I think feigning ignorance will be no defence. I would assume that SGK do not know if you are in receipt of a UK pension but at some point they must realise that men over 65 and women 60 ++ must be
We took out SGK for peace of mind and I think ignoring this problem flies against that
Would be interesting to know how many others in Kalkan may have this problem

k99 understand what you are saying but was just indicating that as ours was a very recent enquiry/application & they made a point of asking if we were married or not, which is why we had to produce the Marriage cert., no mention was made about separate cover for us. Having completed the application forms they must have some idea of our circumstances.

This seems to be the problem - they ask about marriage and not whether you are both in receipt of State Pensions from the UK
