Title: Advice re Flights to Istanbul
Post by: pw on October 19, 2014, 02:52:52 PM
Started the planning for May/June 2015. Decided to spend a few days in Istanbul before hitting Kalkan. So far we have booked:
Hotel in Istanbul
Flights from Istanbul (SAW) to Dalaman with Pegasus
Kalkan suites.

Now looking at flights from UK to Istanbul. Ideally Leeds Bradford but realistically will be from Manchester. The Turkish Airlines fare is currently around £160. This seems pricey. Is there likely to be any reduction in this fare?

Is anyone aware of any cheaper alternatives to Turkish Airlines?

Cheers,

if you use a booking agent rather than booking direct with Turkish Air you can often knock £20 of the price, Skyscanner.net will show the different prices, note also that the price also includes luggage, meals and drinks. I have flown Man-Ist several times highly recommended (as is a stop over in Istanbul, fabulous place) .

pw, friends of mine did this and flew with Easyjet to Ist but I haven't checked to see if they still do this route. I would have thought BA or KLM out of LBA would fight for the ticket, but KLM don't see to be good at splitting a ticket. (I did this a couple of weeks ago, really keen to go out of LBA and ended up on the Manchester/Turkish Airlines flight as it was best value).

Came back Istanbul-Manchester with Turkish airlines on Wednesday after a great 3 night stopover on our way back from Kalkan. Flight was good, typical airline food and drink free, seat back screen with films etc and seemed less stressed than one of the cheap airlines as they weren't coming round selling things all the time. You need to check your luggage allowance however. UK to Istanbul will probably be 20 kg but Istanbul-Dalaman may only be 15kg.

Used Turkish Airlines for the first time this year and was really impressed. Comfortable seats and we thought the food was great for an airline and as for the drinks, no little miniature bottles, just poured straight from a litre bottle. Although they only came round once with the drinks it wasn't a problem if you wanted another. Will definitely use them again, it worked out cheaper for us than going Easyjet.
