Title: Cash or travellers cheques
Post by: Alce on September 30, 2014, 07:24:50 PM
With the exchange rate sounding so much more favourable out there and my debit card carrying hefty foreign transaction fees we know bringing sterling over and changing at the bank is the best bet.
However, very nervous carrying loads of cash so wondered if the banks deal with travellers cheques and if they charge anything on them. Alternatively do the ATMs dispense GBP? Saw a post that seemed to inidcate this?

Any advice greatly appreciated  ;)

We always bring sterling...suits us. Garanti Bank and the HSBC ATM both dispense sterling but you will be charged for it unless you have one of those accounts that allows free withdrawals abroad. This subject has been covered loads so use the search facility and have a good old read - will probably help make up your mind  :)

Do travellers cheques still exist? Just keep your £s in your account and use your debit/credit card for purchases.
You can withdraw  sterling and exchange it at the best local rate, currently 3.6, or just get lira and don't worry about the small variations in the exchange rate.....
