Kasska, perhaps if you were to tellus more about what kind of hotel you want, we maybe able to help you.  A room with a view is important for you but do you want a small bed and breakfast type place or an apartment or a small boutique type hotel?

The Yali is a small hotel, right next to the sea, Serra also is small with good views, not sure if you can book independently, both have parking, it will be about 3hr drive maybe a little more from Marmaris, if you are staying in MARMARIS first you will find Kalkan a very welcome break but very very differant thank god.

Yes - I agree 3 hour minimum - Marmaris to kalkan - maybe 3.5 hours - but oceans apart...if you know what I mean....you will love Kalkan in comparison to Marmaris..!!   :)

Felicity- is that not rather presumptious, it may be that Kasska is coming from Marmaris because they like Marmaris, for all you kow they may even live there.

Nothing much to add to the above but I will anyway as that seems to be the way to bump up your postings!!  I too believe the cost is 2.5 YTL to go through the tunnel.  If you are coming from Marmaris and you happen to like it then I''m glad and hope you''re not offended by some who obviously believe it''s to be avoided at any cost.  I have never been there so can''t really comment on what it''s like but I''m sure it''s the perfect holiday destination for a great many Brits and if Marmaris means as much to them as Kalkan does to some of us then great.

I for one would not like to suggest or confirm even that anyone who has not yet been "will love Kalkan" as surely it is for them to make their own mind up.  I do not think it is for us to tell someone they will enjoy it as (shock horror) there may be some who don''t like it and will not return.  I have suggested Kalkan as a destination to friends and fortunately they liked it but I didn''t tell them they would - they decided that for themselves.

Thank you for your replies. Can anyone give me an idea of the mileage (or kilometres) from Marmaris to Kalkan? Also, can anyone tell me the cost per litre of petrol in Turkey at present?

The distance between Marmaris and Kalkan is approx 200 kilometres. The cost of petrol is just over 3 ytl per litre. There is some variation in different garages but average cost is now about 3.15 ytl per litre.

Marmaris does have some very nice parts, and the fact it is very close to the beautiful Bozburun peninsula is an added bonus. For anyone who does go, try to stop just after Akyaka at Cinar restaurant (even better if breakfast time) for fantastic Turkish food. The castle is worth a look, and you really need to head to the Netsel Marina-I must say NOTHING in Kalkan beats the Sea Clubs Carpaccio followed by pasta with ricotta and sage, washed down with a vodka and Nar (Pomegranate) cocktail. watching the lovely views of the marina and all those expensive yachts. Lovely shops in the marina too. Hopefully Kasska will enjoy Kalkan for it''s contrast.

The Kelebek Hotel in Kalkan has a spectacular view of the bay from the breakfast terrace.  It''s run by a great family.  They do B and B, lunch and evening meals, very reasonably priced.  Also has parking outside.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I can highly recommend The White house as we stayed there while our villa was being built. It was spotlessly clean and so nice and close to everything but also very quiet position. Plenty of car parking space.  Lovely view of harbour and Halil was a great host.  Hope this helps.
