Title: Easyjet fom Dalaman on hand (cabin) baggage only - query
Post by: Mags on June 24, 2014, 11:59:18 AM
Hope someone can help with this, please.
We are due to fly home on Easyjet from Dalaman next week.
I have of course printed out our boarding passes and it says on them that we can go directly to the departure gate, as we have no hold baggage, which is what I would have expected and what happens at UK airports.

HOWEVER ... in one of the umpteen automated emails Easyjet have sent me, it says:

"Due to local regulations in place at Dalaman, your online boarding pass does not allow you into the departure area, so you must present yourself at BAG DROP to receive a validation stamp from our team".

When they say "online boarding pass", are they talking about ones which people may have just downloaded onto a mobile phone or tablet, rather than ones printed out from the web?

So, are we OK to go straight through security & passport control to the departure gate with our PRINTED OUT boarding passes, or do we have to queue at checkin/bag drop for some extra stamp?

Does anyone have any experience, please. Thanks.

Hi Mags,

No they need to give you an old fashioned card boarding pass they don't accept your own print out !  I had mine printed out but was 'bag dropping' earlier this month as had hold luggage.  They don't have a bag drop desk you're queueing with all the checking in people & was surprised that they kept hold of my paper print out & gave me the boarding card.  This was with Easyjet but I remember the same with Thomas Cook last year.

So you might need to allow a bit of time for the queuing too !

If Samson is on here, she can advise on this as her hubby goes back and forth with only hand baggage. I'm fairly certain that he has never mentioned having to queue since passengers were able to print boarding passes for Dalaman.

when we travelled back last year some friends of ours were on the same plane in our queue for bag drop and decided to ask the question re hand baggage only with pre printed boarding passes, they were taken to the front of the queue where the paper boarding passes were swapped for locally issued ones and then went through, they were told they could have gone straight through.

We travelled from Dalaman with Easyjet last month. We queued for a short while at the Speedy Boarding Check In to ask the question as we only had hand luggage and was told to go straight through. At the gate, one of the service girls was handing out replacement boarding cards to those who had checked in online, so I won't bother queuing again in the future.

Wish I hadn't decided at the last minute to take hold baggage back to UK. It took nearly an hour to get to the front of the queue. Dalaman must be the only place where EasyJet have only 1 person manning the bag drop desk.

Thanks for all the replies. Majority experience seems to be that you can go direct to the gate and get the replacement boarding card there.
But maybe it depends on the staff on duty and whether there's an R in the month... ::)

In case anyone is interested, we flew back yesterday. Having checked with the guy at the easyjet check-in desk, we were able to go direct to the gate with our printed-out boarding passes. They were not exchanged at the gate for any other sort of boarding pass and they were successfully scanned by the machine at the gate.
So, it seems as though the message from easyjet about Dalaman regulations which I quoted in my original post is out-of-date!
