Can anyone let me know what the current exchange rate is in Kalkan right now?
Just returned from a trip and needed to exchange left over currency and the chatty guy asked if we wished to exchange for GBP or if we have planned our next holiday the currency of that country? I indicated we would be going to Turkey in June and he said they were offering 3.4tl to £......? I almost forgot about the food I was going to buy and nearly bit his hand off.
Are you lucky people out there now getting a better rate that?

Around 3.6 at the moment.
-
What the feeling on the forum , will this carry on rising ? I know it peanuts but should I buy some for our trip in June .

We have been buying it while rate is decent plus it stops us spending it!! ::)
-
It's gone up again to 3.5 so we've bought some. As BL says it stops us spending it in the UK :) :)
-
Just a note of caution to any early visitors - I've noticed that a few of the town centre 'convenience stores' offering a currency exchange service are only giving the same rates as last summer, ie 3.20TL/£, whereas the banks are offering in excess of 3.5TL.

Hi in kalkan last Friday in the banks it was 3.61tl !

No, don't buy now. It will carry on rising while the UK's economic news is better and Turkey's government is in trouble. When I last looked it was 3.74346TL to the £1. Expect 3.90 by June and more by September.

Well, even my conservative prediction on Tuesday, which I modified yesterday as the rate went up, looks as though it is way off the mark. The rate right now is 3.81779 and rising.

3.60 advertised outside Lucky Supermarket today.

It's about time Lucky increased their rates. They used to be a convenient alternative to having to use the banks to exchange sterling for TL, but last week they were only offering me 3.20 when the previous day I got 3.54 at Denizbank. I did mention this to them so maybe they now realise they have to remain reasonably competitive if they want to continue offering this facility. Just to add, I'm a big fan of Lucky Supermarket - which is my local. Prices are generally low, they have a great product range, and the guys are always welcoming.

Yes, way off the mark. This morning it is showing as 3.92120! So what are the odds for 4.10 - 4.20 by June? Very good I think.
-
BubblesG is this this the rate in Kalkan ? Or on the net ?
4.20 would be just fine for me in June

That is the bank bulk exchange rate but, you should be able to get it in the UK if you exchange around £500,000. Although, the banks in Kalkan usually give very close to this bulk rate for all exchange.
Tonight the rate has dropped to 3.78548.

Lets hope the government can get the economy under control quickly. This is madness.

Various recent financial articles are saying the Turkish Central bank will step in with an emergent interest rate raise hike to stabilise it, so might be good to buy lira before that happens

At 3.61021 this morning. A massive change in just 48 hours.
-
Turkish bank has doubled the interest rate in an attempt to stabilise the currency.
-
Been monitoring it on this website which gives up-to-date news. http://www.newsnow.co.uk/h/World+News/Asia/Turkey/Economy. We also sent emails to our guests earlier in the week to inform them that they might want to consider buying lira now.

Excellent article on KTLN explaining all the pros and cons ;)

3.67 in Kalkan PTT this morning.

I think now is definitely the time to buy. About an hour ago, OH bought our Easter spending money (yay we've booked!!!) online from fairFX at a rate of TRY3.64. I've just had a look at the website and it's now quoting 3.54, so it seems to have dropped within the hour!
-
Yesterday Sainsbury's was offering 3,738, today it dropped to 3.59, still better rates than M&S or Travelex.
-
Looks like we've missed the boat! Have earmarked October for a visit but as haven't booked yet daren't take the risk of buying any currency and to be honest not a lot of spare cash as have the small matter of our daughter's wedding in the summer  although we are fitting in a sneaky few days in Seville in April.......booked with Nectar points!

Can anyone let me know the current exchange rate in Kalkan? Noticed in Tesco it has dropped to 3.3TL to £.
Since the elections, the lira seems to have strengthened against sterling. Coincidence?
-
Coincidence?
No the markets like stability and Erdogan getting re-elected promises just that.
-
Saw 3.52 at a shop today, didn't check the bank during the day but the Denizbank overnight rate is 3.49 - does tend to be lower overnight I think. And the Yapikredi offerred someone we spoke to 3.45 yesterday.
-
Oh well, lets hope it sticks around there or thereabouts. We did manage to buy some when it was it was at 3.75 in the UK and thought we'd been robbed at gunpoint when it climbed higher after that. It quickly dropped and settled at around 3.5 and we felt better, but now I'm hoping it doesn't drop any more. Think we were getting 3.3 at Is Bank ATM Exchange last year so if it sticks around this rate we will still be getting more lira for our £ than last year - which can only be good news :)
-
what is the rate at present in kalkan
its 3.4 here in the uk?
-
At the banks it is 3.58
