Title: Basic Mobile Phone Wanted
Post by: clashgour on September 19, 2013, 01:07:18 PM
Does anyone in Kalkan have a basic, Turkish registered, mobile phone that they no longer need.  A fair price will be paid.  The mobile phone shops in the town only have "function rich" phones at silly prices.  My old simple Nokia is damaged beyond repair.

Please PM.

Interesting subject, I though you could but a turkish  PAYG sim  and put in any phone even  an old UK not locked to a network phone , and it will last 3 months. I was considering doing this,  We are out in Kalkon from 26th Sept  and could bring you  an old UK mobile phone out  for nothing or could buy a new basic uk mobile for about  £20 and bring it out for you. feel free to pm me if you want  to take up the offer . appreciate we may have it wrong about English phones and how they can be used with Turkish sims

We got a cheap and basic Samsung clamshell phone from the Turkcell shop. It was only a few months ago too, so they probably still have them in stock.

Thanks Brian, unfortunately a UK phone can only be used with a Turkish SIM for about two weeks before the Turkish authorities block it.

Thanks Martin, the two Turkcell shops don't have basic phones anymore.  The lowest price phone they have is a Samsung at 219 TL.  If you know a lower price do let me know.

Alan, sounds as if you have a better handle on it than me! It was a few months ago....maybe they have sold off the old stock now.

we bought a 'cheapie' from Turkcell shop in Fethiye,  . . . it would have cost us £15 in UK, I seem to remember it cost us around 85 TL even a cheap Samsung basic phone costs about 3 times the cost as the UK.

Is the Turkcell shop the Smile supermarket opp taxi rank? They have always had a full range of cheap (ish) basic mobiles for this purpose. Sorry if you have already tried here - if so, they must have changed and gone more upmarket! They're always more expensive than you think though. KM

A lot of the cheap mobiles from lucky supermarket Turkcell are used phones and not necessarily new.

Hi, sorry I meant Lucky supermarket. Yes, many are used but in terms of this purpose I think the poster was willing to have a used one just for use in Turkey. You will see that they are used when you look at them though they generally don't seem to be in bad condition, they're just basic models.

Just a word of warning when buying a used phone from here.I did buy one,a cheap nokia and it stopped working.I took it back and they said they could repair it but said it had to be sent away to get repaired. The shop said it would be back the following day,but it wasn't !! 5 days later,it was still not back so I demanded a refund, which they gave me.

My advice would be in these circumstances..........Just go straight for the refund option, and keep your receipt.

Just a tip but I dont bother with a turkish mobile.
Ive downloaded viber & whatsap, no cost involved and I can send & receive texts and make calls for free ( when you are in a wifi zone ) which  nearly eveywhere in kalkan has.
this has worked really well for no big phones bills when you get back from hols either ..
Maybe be an option worth trying
