Title: Taxis in Kalkan
Post by: Sam on February 27, 2008, 10:29:16 AM
Hello, we are hoping to rent a villa in Kalkan this August.  As most the the villas are set up in the hills above Kalkan, we will obviously have to get Taxis to transport us.  We are wondering if the taxi drivers are very strict on how many passengers they carry, or are there plenty of six seater taxis as we have three children and are worried that we may be stranded down in Kalkan after a night out.

Also we wondered if anyone could recommend any really nice traditional restaurants in the village.

Many thanks.

Sam

Hi Sam,
Cant really answer your question about taxis as we don''t have to use them. However I have seen some 6 seater taxis at the taxi rank. As for restaurants there are so many to choose from. Take a look at the Restaurant thread. I am sure you will find your own favourites.

Hi,
A lot of the villa owners leave a Turkish mobile for their guests. They will have taxi numbers and the main taxi rank number on them.
You will also find their favourite restaurants on many of them or they will have a book with business cards etc.  You could ask when you are booking. Enjoy your holiday!

If you haven''t booked your villa yet, why don''t you look for one that says it''s within walking distance to the centre of Kalkan? You may have to be quick though as August is a popular month and you may find a lot of the accomodation is already booked. If you get something closer to the centre you could always walk in (mostly downhill) and then go to the rank on your way home and get one of the 6 seaters - they definitely had some last year - if you don''t fancy the walk back up (especially with children).
Just an option to consider  :)

Sam,
Please don''t feel overly concerned that your children (you don''t say how old they are?) will be stuck in town. No matter what time any bar / restaurant/ shop will happily phone for a taxi for them. Family values are very strong in Turkey and your children will be very safe.
