Before paying, look carefully at your bill as many restaurants are now building in 10% tips. Not wrong but you may not want to add another x% on top of it.

Thanks for the tip Cosetta, I'll make sure we scrutinise the bill, I always presumed that service was extra.

We alwaus check the bill and if there's a service charge we don't leave a tip, unless the service and meal have been exceptional....such a shame that restaurants feel the need to add 10% to their bills as I guess most people would leave a more generous tip?

I even ask the waitress /waiter if he or she will get / share the tip. It's fun to see the discretion in them hiding a healthy cash tip when they choose to!
