We have an account with Deniz Bank that has very little in it and has been unused for several years. Because we experienced problems getting an ATM card through them we eventually gave up and opened an account with another bank. Before we go in to close the account we wanted to ask if anyone knows if we will be charged to do this? We are also concerned that some banks charge a monthly account management fee so we didn't want to go in to close the account and find that we had several years arrears for account management charges and that we actually owed them! Thanks.

I don't know about charges for closing an account but the Denizbank does have a monthly account management charge on both lira and sterling accounts. If we leave an account with a zero balance when we are not in Turkey, the charges accumulate and are deducted once the account is back in credit.

There was no charge when I closed my accounts there a couple of years back, except the monthly charges of course.
Does anyone know how to stop their advertising emails, there never seems to be a link in them to do that?

We closed an old Deniz bank account in May this year, as like you we had opened it a few years ago put £50 in it but not used it as we perfered another bank. Consequently we owed them money - there was no charge to close it but the monthly fees had added up!!

There are no monthly fees with Denizbank if you have a minumum of 2 direct debits - easy to set up your water, electricity and internet/telephone on D/D!

That's what we thought. We have 3 DD's set up; Tedas, Su & Digiturk, but are still being charged 7TL each month. It's difficult to sort out from the UK, so will pay a visit whilst we are over there soon.
