Title: Any new restaurants?
Post by: utah1 on April 18, 2013, 01:58:04 PM
Ok so I missed last year in Kalkan as my daughter was getting married and took all our funds. Ha ha!

I aim to make up for it this time and will be arriving on 3rd May.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Did anything new open last year or new Chefs in our regular places such as Coast.

Any advice would be appreciated.  Also really struggle with the wine is there a good white or red you can suggest?  My normal tipple would be chardonnay, sancerre or viognier and a malbec or shiraz for red.

Thanks everyone.

This site is amazing.

Cheers

Gail

Hi utah1,
the chef from Coast went to Gourmet - think it might have been two seasons ago. Coast moved from Gironda to the harbour and kept pretty much the same menu in their new home. We like both Coast and Gourmet, but haven't been back to Gironda for a couple of years - don't know why, just don't get round to it. New for last year, and one we really enjoyed was Escudo - where Maya used to be. Only small and you need to book, but really nice. Agora was also new last year but we didn't try it. White Table was new in 2011 and its one of our favourites of the new places - opposite Salt and Pepper and serves posh burgers (very reasonable prices for the location) and the best rose wine in Kalkan...IMHO :)

Thank you so much for all your advice Escuda and Agora seem to have been mentioned quite a lot on here.  Did go to Coast when they moved as I loved their marble steak.  First time I went to Gironda it was amazing did quite a bit of Thai food as they had a Thai Chef at one point last time I went not so fussed.
