Title: Payment at Airport
Post by: sunlover on February 04, 2008, 01:46:46 PM
Some of our friends went to Turkey last year and they said they had to be pay £10.00 each (family of Four) to officials in Dalaman Airport, they are not sure what it is was for but paid it because thought it was the normal thing to do to get through customs in Turkey,  Does anybody know about this procedure, there are five of us and do not want to have to pay £50.00 at Airport.

Sorry, but you will have to pay for a tourist visa after landing, at any Turkish airport.  This will cost £10 per person and lasts for 3 months and covers you for any number of visits in that time.

OK thanks will be prepared with my money, does it have to be in £ sterling cash, or do they prefer local currency.

£ sterling. It used to be that it had to be separate £10 notes for each person but now I don''t think it matters if you paid with a twenty for two.

Some of them are still not too happy with the new £20 note especially if they are given one of the old and one of the new notes either together or nearly at the same time.  Think they still prefer the £10 as they are familiar with it and it makes things easier.

Yes - I agree not worth the hassle especially at some ungodly hour of the night - take a single £10 note for each of your party - including babies - and you will be fine..!  Look on the bright side - you can return for free within 3 months..!   ;)  And even brighter - the turks have way more hassle and expense to get a visa to come to the UK - so we really are the lucky ones..!!  (but yes - it probably is just a turkish govt money raising exercise..!!  >:()
