Title: Solar water heating failure
Post by: Chris S on March 18, 2013, 05:33:48 PM
I have been informed that my solar water heating system, fitted in November 2009, now needs a new tank .
The symptoms are water overflowing from the small header tank which I believe tops up the closed water heating circuit which flows through thr solar panels and the heat exchanger.  The ball cock is fine but I have been told that internal corrosion is the reason, causing the main potable water to mix with the solar water circuit, forcing it up through the header tank under mains pressure.
Does this sound plausible?   I would have expected a few more years out of te system, bearing in mind there are no moving parts.
Does anyone have any experience of problems with this type of heating.

I had exactly the same symptoms/problem last year and a new tank was required, our manager out here looks after half a dozen places and over the last few years has had 3 fail, however 3years life isn't very good at all.
