Post by: Dimetime2 on January 30, 2008, 09:52:31 PM
Hi - Does anyone know for sure what the purpose of the airport scanners/xray are for as you leave Dalaman airport. A little concerned as i will have plenty of large electrial items for the villa on the next trip out to Kalkan and fear it may be a tax/VAT/Revenue collecting operation!!!!!!!!

Thanks to anyone that is sure of the answer ???

Dimetime2, I don''t know what you mean by "plenty", but you should check the limit for goods (be they souvenirs, gifts, or for your own use) being brought into Turkey.
It was 500DM for years, I think it''s about 300 euros now.

Though since you''re worried about the possible existence of checks, I suspect you know you are going to be bringing in goods over the limit, but still intend to do it intentionally.

This is smuggling, and I would strongly advise against it.

The penalties are severe - all of your items could be confiscated, plus a heavy fine.

Since electrical goods are freely available in Turkey, at prices around the same as the UK, why on earth take the risk?
