Title: Visitors beware, Yali supermarket .
Post by: Korderekid on December 31, 2012, 07:59:22 AM
In the last ten days we have had a lot of non-resident Brits arriving in Kalkan to celebrate Christmas and New Year. In this same period, when shopping in Yali supermarket, on three separate occasions we have been overcharged by at least 50% at Yali supermarket.

Fortunately, unlike many visitors, we know what things cost and at the checkout have an accurate idea of what the bill will come to.

We were charged 35 lira per bottle for red wine priced at 15, 23
lira for cat litter priced at 7 and 9 lira per tin for some chick peas priced at less than 3 .

So we asked in Turkish what the
problem was and were told on the ifirst occasion it was. A mistake, which we accepted.

The second time it happened, different cashier, we were told when we queried the price it was a bar code problem.

A bit suspicious by now but still not thinking it was deliberate.

The final time, when we queried, one cashier who recognised us , told
the other cashier, not realising we spoke Turkish, 'they live here they know the prices'

So if you are here and shopping in Yali, please check your bills very carefully. It seems they are having a seasonal outbreak of mistakes.

Not in the least bit surprised, also some of the cashiers fail to give you your change if it's not a large amount unless you insist, I have found in the past.  Will only shop there is I have to & then am very careful at the checkout.  Found the staff not to be so friendly/helpful as they used to be either.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

:o disgraceful as we have continued to use them as loyalty to the local traders who are in competition with the "big boys" now. may have to rethink! dont think we have been "caught" as only paid 2 something lira for our chickpeas the other day . lol happy new year!

The same thing happened to us out of season in Calis a couple of years ago. Fortunately my OH is very vigilant at the checkout and noticed straight away.

Thankfully we have never experienced it in Kalkan. Hope Yali have mended their ways/tills now you caught them out!!

Keep watch in Kippa too.
The advertised prices were not the prices charged at the till on a few occasions. The staff were very nice and friendly and a bit confused,I dont think they were trying to cheat us but the system was at fault and we were nearly overcharged on each occasion.
Have also experienced the same problem at Gempa.
Change seems to be a problem in many shops, not just in Kalkan. They dont see the need to give it to you!!!
