Title: Tipping?
Post by: Belladonna on August 29, 2012, 07:14:26 PM
Hi, this might seem a daft question, but what's the protocol on tipping in Kalkan, restaurants, taxis, hotel (we're staying in the Regency, so housekeeping in particular).  Wouldn't want to overtip or undertip if it's different to the UK?

I wouldn't worry too much about protocol.  Obviously lots of people rely heavily on tips to supplement low wages but I'd say it's similar to the UK where it's very much up to the individual  :)

I tip between 10-20% for a meal depending on how much it was and how good the service was.  I tip more if the meal is really cheap and service is good.  I don't tip anything if the service is bad though.  I also tip at the end of a bar visit as in most places you'll have a tab so won't pay for the drinks as you go.   With taxis, I do the same as I do in the UK and I don't tip a set amount as such, I just round it up to a convenient amount.  I know some people tip housekeeping daily but I tend to just leave one large tip at the end of the holiday if the same person/people are doing it every day.
