??? ??? ...because Rhodes is a lovely...and if you are in fairly close proximity, why not? We love Kalkan, but will always make a point of visiting other places when we are there.

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Must admit that the old town in Rhodes is beautiful and well worth a visit, not so sure about the rest of the island - perhaps with the exception of Lindos - we stayed a few years ago and apart from the old town would have no real inclination to go back. We also once did a day visit on the hydrofoil from Marmaris but I remember that that was a very long trek.

I agree with ian the old town in Rhodes is lovely, and I'm guessing if you're only going for the day from Turkey or Meis then you would only go to the old town. It's photography heaven!!

Thank you for all your replies especially the one stating about it being acceptable or not.
I suppose because it is nearby and like to sight see.
Also my daughter will be studying about Greek related things when she goes into junior school in september ( I need to check exactly what bits)
So if you can recommend other Greek related things we can see during our stay in Kalkan and nearby. I hear there is another Greek island nearby that might be better to visit.

So info on this would be appreciated

You must go th Kaya Koy near Fethiye. It was a greek village until they were thrown out of Turkey, many of them only spoke Turkish. The old village is now deserted and the buildings are in different stages of ruin. You can walk round the buildings (well more like scramble in places) and we found it very atmospheric. There are some cafes and restaurants at the side of the village. Your daughter will learn about Greek/Turkish relationships from this visit.

Rhodes is or was a lovely island, like Kalkan now possibly built upon & slightly spoiled.  However it has a lot of history and well worth a visit.

Hi,
Meis is easy to get to from Kalkan. Need to be at Kas harbour by 9.30 with passports. We had a lovely day. Back I think about 4 PM.

You can visit the Mosque above the harbour in Kalkan as it used to be a Greek Orthodox church - I am sure that the Iman who lives next to it would be very pleased to show you around and explain it's history
