Patara Beach
« on: July 11, 2017, 11:32:41 AM »
I would like to reiterate the importance of keeping an eye out for others when swimming at Patara Beach especially those with children.
Having completed a fantastic day's' kayaking down to Patara from Kinik my family and I were witness to the horrific drowning of 2 little Syrian boys just off the sand spit where the river meets the sea. The boys were parted from their lilo and got into trouble in a couple of meters of water. Neither could swim and it was too late by the time help arrived.
Apparently this is an all too regular occurrence on this beach so please swim between the flags and stay together. Please pray for these little lost souls and for the heartache of their poor parents.

What a sad sad thing, those poor boys, our hearts go out to their families.  Such an awful tragedy, can't even bear to think how everyone must be feeling.

As beautiful as this whole area is there are some very dangerous under currents in the sea and people should be fully aware. Sadly there have been some very tragic incidents previously over the years.

Always respect the water no matter how deep or shallow.

What a horrible thing for you all to have witnessed.

What an absolutely shocking thing to have happened and how dreadful to have been witnesses. RIP little ones.
Even on the main beach, I worry about the currents when swimming and don't go too far out.
A salutary message to be careful.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Tragic. RIP. Never underestimate the power of the sea.

We are regular visitors to Patara and it amazes me how people are prepared to enter tge water unable to swim.

Oh how traumatic for you to witness such a tragedy. My heart goes out to their poor family. I too never go far out in Patara, the sea there always seems to feel different from other beaches we've visited, such a strong undercurrent and in April when we last visited, we watched the rip tides from the shore. RIP.  :'(
