« on: July 03, 2012, 08:56:24 PM »
Hi all,

was just wondering if anybody could recommend places to go or things to do?
We're new to Kalkan and will be arriving on Monday  :D

Thanks  :)

Haven't seen a post from you before so welcome.  There are so many posts on here about things to do could I gently suggest you search up at the top?   I think they have a separate bit for things to do!  Hope you have a fabulous time.  :) :) :)

IMHO the following are must do's
1 boat trip from Kalkan harbour. If you visit the harbour about 9.30 am or 6pm you can check what is available ther are small boats which take 12 approx and larger boats.
2 saklikent gorge
3 Patara Beach. Dolmus's (small buses) Cost 10 lira return plus 5 lira to enter the Patara site.

You can search for these from the search button at the top of the page for more information. I also suggest that you Google the KTLN website and register (it's free) Check out their business directory which will give you loads of information about tour operators, activities restaurants etc.

Have a great holiday
Toni

Sundowners on Patarra Beach..... The most fantastic place to watch the sunset... Get a cab over there late in the afternoon... Take a cool box loaded with Lal  Rose and Efes.... have a splash about in the waves and then watch the most spectacular sunset... It sets about 45 minutes later than in Kalkan as theres no mountains in the way!!... Don't forget your camera... We go for dinner afterwards in a Restaurant in Patarra next to the car park... I forget the name of it,but they have a terrapin called "Shim-Shak" (turkish for lightening!!)... He will come and pick u up from the beach car park in his Landrover and drop you home again after dinner.....
Saklikent is a must and the white water Ringos are great fun too , then lunch at Yakka Park (see if u can get a free beer by staying in the icy water for at least 5 minutes!!)
Definitely do a boat trip from the harbour... The food is amazing , and its a great value day out , nice to see the bay from a different angle.
For the dare devils.... My son says the best thing he has EVER done was the paragliding from the Taurus Mountains behind Kalkan... The big mountain with the radio masts on... He was 10 when he did it and whooped the whole way back down to the harbour...
The Diving Centre is great in Kalamar Bay as is the Kayaking...
And theres all those beach clubs...
Masses to do.... and not much time to do it!!

But Sundowners on Patarra Beach , followed by dinner there is a very mellow way to pass an evening

We went to Patara the year before last to watch the sunset, amazing, swimming in the sea, like a warm bath even at night.  We then went to a restaurant in Patara, the name escapes me, food was excellent, (no prices on the menu) when the bill came, they just said pay what you think it is worth! bizzare.  Definitely want to revisit this year, but cannot remember the name of the restaurant.

Agreed beautiful beach - but be careful, strong current and deep entrance into the water!

And is there any shade on Kaputas?

Only as the sun comes up and as it goes down. Otherwise, it is one for the sun worshippers.
