Thank God I found Kalkan first!
« on: March 13, 2014, 08:15:58 PM »
BBC 1 showing a program called "Holiday Hit Squad" showed Marmaris last week and Bodrum this week, if this is all people actually see of Turkey they will never come! All I can say is Thank God we found Kalkan on our first visit, had we "found" either the above I doubt we would ever have returned.

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

We found Side first, then Kushadasi, then Bodrum..........then finally Kalkan ( never visited Marmaris )....................Kalkan wins hands down. Its in a different league to the others, but I guess if you are 18,you may think Marmaris is heaven on earth so its horses for courses.

Agree with both comments thank god we found Kalkan as well . visited  most holiday hot spot areas in turkey with kids when they were  pre teens , early teens ,  older teenage and in to early/mid 20s over  a 35 year period, Kusadasi, Bellek, Chesme, Side, Bodrum etc etc  ( excuse`any location spelling) loved all of them at the different times for what they offered at that time in our life's .  Kalkan is ultimately where we decided was for us  and has been for a few years,  and we aim to semi retire someday , === We have   settled down now and enjoy the more relaxed mature and finer way of life, appreciating the fine food, character , people and nature of Kalkan but still love the odd knees up as well. Kalkan has everything

As long as they Holiday TV journalists stick to Bodrum, Marmaris etc - then rejoice!

It means that the vast majority will have never heard of Kalkan and thence fail to turn it into Torremolinos
Please use "Click to Say Thanks' if you enjoy this Post.  ::)

I agree too. It's better that I don't say where I spend my holidays. More people come and more the cost goes up. The village can't withstand thousand of new tourists. Sorry for being selfish in this circumstance.

Our first couple of visits were to Calis Beach, which was where we caught a mild attack of the Turkey bug. Next we ventured a bit further north to Akbuk which was a disappointment but a great location for visiting Ephasus etc. We decided we didn't like the Bodrum area so set about finding somewhere down south again. By sheer chance I found Kalkan which ticks all the boxes, now I can't get Janet to go anywhere else, totally infected with the virus Kalkanitis. We're not fans of big resorts and always stay in smaller places wherever we go be it Turkey, Menorca or mainland Spain.
