Yes but in Turkey they are rising even faster at around 8.5%, plus the £ has recently lost 15% against the Lira, so people currently in Kalkan will find it around 25% dearer than last year

As a number of our regular guests did not come back this year quoting, high prices (inc flights, food and of course taxi fares) I think next year will be difficult. Already this year we have seen a marked switch in our bookings away from families to groups of twentysomethings.

Hi alantj, I agree it has been more pricey this year. I''d be interested to know where your regular guests went on holiday instead, the strong Euro has made European resorts very costly as well this summer, did they stay in the UK or not go away at all?

I only know for sure where one group went - a work colleague who had been to Kalkan five times over the past 8 years and booked my villa for the last 3 years. She hired a villa in Ferragudo (Algarve) for two weeks in July.

She told other work colleagues (she was polite enough not to report back to me) she found the town/food just as nice as Kalkan and the wine twice as nice, overall the 2 week holiday cost not much more than half the price of their previous year in Kalkan.

Thanks alantj, that''s really interesting. We have spent many happy holidays in the Algarve, it''s very nice but we ended up feeling we could be anywhere in the world.

I know where I''d rather be!

With the dodgy euro any country that uses it is really exspensive at the moment,Turkey/kalkan still comes
up top for me,even if the village has put its prices up,dont use the taxis and its still not bad.
For may next year, one week, flight, transfer and a three bed apt for four of us, I paid £175,I think that would take some beating, even in blackpool !

jayne,

I haven''t been but I understand that Ferragudo is still a working fishing village that like Kalkan retains much of its original character, despite being in a tourist area.

Hiya littlelin, yes a really good deal,we booked the flights at the end of may through www.airflights.co.uk
they cost £126 each, but they have gone up a fair bit,the air line is onur air,the comfirmation came back
from agean flights so must be a connection somewhere, but they were cheaper with airflights.

Correct me if I''m wrong fidimax, you got 4 flights at £126 each and you''re paying £175 each that''s £49 each for a week in a 3 bed apart including transfer to kalkan, your transfer must be £50 so £150 for a 3 bed apart for a week! if that''s correct then that''s an amazing price.
Bring ''em on down I say.
Having said that the Algarve is about half the distance so I should think comparable flights are probably cheaper, the only question is does the Algarve have to offer what kalkan does.

Hi Kalkamp,   Flight £126,apt £90(4 pax)=£22.50,transfers,£100(4 pax)=£25.   =£173.50.
Transfers may have gone up by next may,but I was told £100.

                                                         Not bad.

Neil,

That''s an amazing price for a 3 bed apartment - even ignoring a share of the management charge, just my letting costs (welcome pack, cleaning, laundry and pool chemicals) amount to over 90pw.
