How much money do you take?
« on: October 02, 2010, 11:26:10 AM »
I know there has been much discussion about this based upon where you eat / drink etc as you can make Kalkan as expensive or inexpensive as you like - However I thought it would be a good idea to do a simple thread for people so at the end we can create an average.... Please do not go into lots of detail, I was thinking along the lines of

Number of Days:
Number of People:
Amount in GBP or TL:

For 14 days I took £300 with me, but cashed another £180 while I was there so circa £500 in total for the two weeks.  That was just my budget, not anyone else's.  We were self catering so all meals had to be paid for, plus household goods like dishwasher tablets, washing powder, loo rolls etc. - and all the pet food we invested in for our villa menagerie!  ;D

The short form of all that is:

Days: 14

People:  1

Amount: c.£500

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Hi. I am a new member to kalkan forum, joined because we are coming this year. I thought i would reply to this subject .   We are two pensioners not rearly hard up but when we come to Turkey which will be the ninth visit, this year  we will stay six nights this is because of our flight times arrive early hours this always happens. But getting down to money I think we roughly  spend £3oo .  we have B&B accomodation we have a beer during the morning have a snack and drink at lunch time.  and a drink again in the afternoon plus a meal and drinks at night.  we will have a boat trip but as you know these are cheap we might hire a car for one day but apart from that we use the dol.mush,we never sit around the pool we are always out somewhere I think we do well for a six and half day holiday.

I am planning to spend my holidays here at Kalkan but don't know what are the maximum charges related to seven days tour with full round of the area.
Please help me for arranging the expenses.
I'm sure 5000 dollars should be enough!

Its almost impossible to guess how much someone might spend in Kalkan.
Not everyone drinks beer or wine, some are very happy with water or çay.
Some would be happy to hop on a bus to Kaş or Fethiye for a day out, others would only go in a taxi or hire car.
There were some lovely young couchsurfers here last week, who were thrilled when they found they could get a tasty, freshly cooked, proper Turkish meal that included bread, salad, water and çay for 5 lira each.Other people would only be prepared to eat a 3 course european style meal overlooking the harbour.
The tea garden next to the beach is lovely, but it wouldnt suit everyone.A walk around the harbour or on the Caretta Road costs nothing. To sit on the beach and read a book is free (if you dont mind sitting on the stones!).
The market has wonderful fresh fruit and veg if you are self catering.A great variety of breads can be found at the bakery.Others would never consider a holiday was a holiday if they had to cook their own food!
There are some great shops in Kalkan-wonderful clothes, jewellery, handbags etc.All very tempting!
So I guess Kalkan has something for everyone and can be as cheap or expensive as you make it.

My wife/financial advisor to the gods, determines £500 for us both per week.
In addition to that is an unlimited sum for her personal expenditure on handbags, shoes, jewellery etc............. :-\
I woke up last night to find the ghost of Gloria Gaynor standing at the foot of my bed. At first I was afraid.......then I was petrified

Blimey!  We chose Turkey for the first time as understood it was cheaper than Greece.  This is worrying.  Just me and my 11 year old coming for a fortnight.  Only got £1000 saved.  Looks like a few sachets of soup from home will be needed!  Anyone recommend the cheapest restaurants?!!
