Exchange rate
« on: July 29, 2011, 07:51:34 PM »
Hi All ,Hope all who have been on holiday in Kalkan have enjoyed it. I was looking for info on where and when to buy our Lira from, Is it best to watch exchange rate and  buy in uk, or should we wait and exchange in Kalkan using sterling to buy it.
Any info would be welcome
Cheers
Bill

its swings and roundabouts at the moment. normally its better to bring sterling and change at the bank. but this week we got 2.78tl at nat west with no charges as we have an account. it dropped again the next day to 2.71tl so it really is a lottery.  ??? :-\

We got 2.68 at the PTT yesterday, after commission.

We usually exchange all  our money in Kalkan which works out better than changing it at home but with the rate being so good lately, we exchanged £500 (approx half our spends) here in the UK last week when it peaked.  We're planning to exchange the rest of our money in Kalkan when we go in September but didn't want to miss out if the exchange rate for Sterling falls considerably by then.  My boyfriend works in finance so checks the rate daily and has a much better idea of what's going on than I do, I just let him decide  :)

Evening all, Just been reading another thread on the exchange rate. I think what was said is the exchange rate shown  on this site is what I could get locally in Kalkan, Am I correct ?
Cheers

Hi Bill
This information and lots of other useful nuggets is on the Main EnjoyKalkan home page.
Go to the top of the screen and on the right of the lighthouse, click on the button "Back to Main Page".
This will take you to the EK main page, click on Holiday Essentials, then Local News and the exchange rate is there.
(Excellent rate at the moment)
Joan
