Upholstery cleaning
« on: October 28, 2009, 12:28:04 PM »
My cream coloured fabric suite badly needs cleaning. Although the covers are 'removable' and washable I am pretty certain I couldn't get them back on the foam without creasing or ending up not fitting well.

Does anyone know if there is a mobile upholstery cleaning service in Kalkan or anywhere I can rent a machine and do it myself? Any ideas welcome!

Thanks

I would (& have) go ahead & wash them - use a low temperature wash, dry outside, iron while damp & most important - put them back on whilst slightly damp. This means the fabric can stretch a little while damp to go on the furniture & shrink a little when dry to fit well. And if dry cleaning costs are anything like UK costs you will be  :o at the price!

I would be really interested to know this too.  The fabric on our sofa is that tight that I wouldn't take the risk of shrinking the covers and making them even tighter.
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

If they say they are washable you'll be fine - if you put the covers back on slightly damp as there is then a lot of give in the material. I've done it loads of times & in rental properties (in UK) also.

If you do decide to give it a go, do so with extreme care - our property managers took ours off to wash them, then they were too small to go back on and subsequently ripped at every seam. We had to have them all recovered.

How long were they in the cleaners - could they be done the same day?

I have taken off my beige sofa covers and washed them on a 30 degree delicate wash several times, dried them outside and put them straight back on.  I admit it was a bit of a struggle to get the seat cushions back on, but I managed it and had no problem.  I cleaned the arms and the rest of the sofa with some fabric/carpet cleaner I got from the shop near the Pisces estate agent, near the pharmacy.  It has come up like new.  the only thing you have to watch is the zips, make sure that you pull enough fabric to allow the zip to close without strain and you will be fine.  Good luck
