"That Hill" from the harbour to the Moonlight Bar
« on: June 26, 2012, 05:23:50 PM »
Whilst undertaking some gentle exercise in the gym this morning  it occurred to me that perhaps I had better shape up for That Hill :o I wondered if anyone knows what the gradient might be?  I can then try and tailor the tread mill just to have some practise.
Thanks for any help and yes I know it's very steep!!

Not sure how accurate but a quick look at google earth shows that for the main 50M part of 'That Hill' you climb approx 10M so as Gradient = vertical gain / horizontal distance , 10/50 = .2 or 20% most treadmills max out at 15-18% but be very careful as training at gradients increases the risk of injury and 'That Hill' would be even harder on crutches!

I have a very responsible position...

In preparation you should choose one of our hills in Yorkshire. I'm willing to be your personal trainer and will only charge you 50% of your current gym fees. Can't say fairer than that.

My dog an I - Moses the Labradoodle - regularly treck up one in four gradients and quite often make good progress especially if I give the command "squirrel", "cat" or "rabbit" (it can be especially quick when going downhill).

After that the hill in question will appear as just a gentle slope.

We find Moel Famau is good practice, here in North Wales :)
Cardiac Hill is far worse than this one though...especially the extended version up to the Samira Gardens...this is the mother of all hills in Kalkan ;)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

And of course by zigzagging you must be walking further, allowing a drink at Moonlight as a reward. ;)
