Blu-ray player with DLNA
« on: July 07, 2012, 10:37:31 AM »
To all tech loving Kalkan folk, hope you can help,

We are looking to replace our DVD player in the apartment we own to a Blu-ray player. I'd like to buy one with DLNA / wireless built in so that I can stream content from my laptop to the TV. Do they sell these in Kalkan or do you know where I can buy one (mail order?). How much would it cost approx? Also, do you know if the Smart Apps that come with a lot of these devices work in Turkey? I know that BBC iPlayer and other UK catch-up services will not but what about Netflix, Facebook?

This is the kind of player I mean:

Would much appreciate your help

I haven't done the research on this, but if the laptop has an HDMI you could connect the laptop by cable.  if it has an internet connection you could try a Bluetooth or better still a WiFi dongle.  If you install a DLNA server on your laptop (Serviio, for example is very good) you can stream from the laptop to the TV,and control it using the TV remote.  Note that this is dependent on the TV's functionality to access a Media Server.

Can't comment on the Facebook etc connection, but connecting to iPlayer from the UK would mean either subscribing to a third party, or accessing the BBC through a Proxy Server.  Some programmes would not need this, it depends on the copyright of the programme.

Here is a link to Teknosa's offerings. Nearest shop is outside the bus station in Fethiye.
