Decent Fizz..?
« on: April 08, 2012, 03:22:17 PM »
Mrs EK recently posted about favourite cocktails in Kalkan and it got me thinking about bubbly. In all the years we've been coming to Kalkan I've tried a couple of bottles of sparkling wine but haven't really found one that, given the price, I could really enjoy. Any recommendations would be very welcome.

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Anyone out in Kalkan at present, or arriving shortly, willing to do any research on this??   I love a decent fizz and it would be great to know of one in Kalkan which wouldn't break the bank.   Fortunately I don't have a single handbag or shoe gene so don't need to save the money for that kind of shopping.

Oh yes what a brilliant idea..I would appreciate that too, would be lovely to have a nice glass of prosecco looking out to sea  :). I'm not sure if Turkey have an equivalent. I'll report back at the end of the month to see what I can find.

We had some Turkish 'champagne' in Ottoman's once...It was was OK, but not great and it cost around £20.  An alternative to good bubbly is to have a not so good one and add some Creme de Cassis for a Kir Royale.  That's what I do to make cheap sparkly more drinkable, anyway!

thanks, Jon. The article explains a lot - given the climate you would assume Turkey could produce a decent fizz - cava-alike :) but this gives a good insight as to why not.
We'll give kavaklidere a try when we're there in June. Thanks for the tips Jen Jen - never seen Creme de Cassis in Kalkan, but I've made a Pimms Royale with the duty free stash with the sparkling wine we've bought previously ;)
tortoise lady, sadly I must have your unused bag and shoe genes as I appear to have more than normal - don't mind dipping into the bag fund for a decent bubbly though :)
Thanks also for offering to undertake the very important research, Julie...its a dirty job etc etc ;) ;)
