I'm also not a kindle fan. BH has an ipad and has downloaded all kinds of rubbish on it, but I really love the feel of a book, seeing how far I've got, getting a new bookmark from Palm Beach and its a real conversation starter..."Oh I've read that, how did you find it...?" "I was thinking of reading that - is it any good"? Plus you can't exactly leave your kindle with Abi Travel to raise money for the street animals, or in the apartment/villa for the next guests can you? ::)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Ianb......I have both the books you recommend stored for our trip in June! I can really see the benefits of a kindle but have so many books stored up ready to read that I can't really justify one at the moment.
I'm also concerned that it would cramp my style on holiday because I just love to 'hang in the pool on a noodle' and read!
My favourite book of the last couple of years has been One Day....one of the very few books I've read twice!

Hi
For Kindle (£4.59) or book version, if you want something Turkey related, 'Perking the Pansies' is a true and amusing account of a couple's move to the Bodrum Peninsula in search of a new life. It's not Kalkan but at least it's Turkey and some of the tales are quite familiar...

£149 for the 3G version.
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

I have found the Kindle very useful in five ways:
a) It saves me weight when I come to Turkey as I do not need to pack fifteen library books plus one in my hand luggage to read on the plane.
b) For short periods away I no longer need to carry a lap top or worry about internet access as with the 3G version (£149) I can access the web and collect my e-mails anywhere and currently at no cost. unlike using  a mobile phone. I appreciate that the Kindle is not the best device to browse the web with but for keeping up to date with e-mails it is fine, as long as you do not have to type in long e-mails.
c) If I do run out of something to read when I am away I can always find and download another book.
d) Certain Uk newspapers are available to be delivered daily to read on the Kindle, though the screen is not the best one on which to read a newspaper.
e) My daughter has a Kindle which is on the same account as mine so any books she buys are also available for me to read if I so wish. This has introduced me to authors I perhaps would not have considered before.

Unfortunately, as I understand it, the ability to loan Kindle books to another Kindle owner is not available for Uk registered Kindles only those registered in the USA so I am unable to "borrow" books from other Kindle owners.

There are lots of free books available and books are often on offer for pence so that using my Kindle is almost as cheap as using the library.

If you are thinking of buying a Kindle do not expect to save on VAT at the airport as Dixons, the main electrical retailer in the major UK airports, sell Kindles, an i pads for only a few pence less than the UK retail price. They clearly add the VAT saving onto their profit margin.

Thanks for that Painter man I was wondering about the sharing books as this would be a great add on for the Kindle. I did read somewhere that library's are thinking of allowing you download books for Kindle(again in America they do apparently) , now that would be good.

£149 for the 3G version.
Just for info....
If anyone is considering buying a Kindle, enter TDX-DRMX code at checkout will deduct £10 off a £75 spend at Tesco Direct, which will obviously work with either WIFI or 3G Kindle or even an expensive chopper (Antler!). Code expires 11th March.

You can access up to 6 friends books if registered in UK. Instructions are fairly straightforward. Have a look.

You can share all your Kindle books with a trusted partner.
It means, however, that one person has the lead account.
You have to trust bith parties are willing to foot the bill for eithers choice of books.
Ideally, you would share with your partner.
Instructions are on-line at Amazon.
