You can do signed for/recorded delivery through the Post Office. I've had about 20 parcels sent since April and each one has arrived undamaged. Most of them were posted in the normal way and a couple were sent signed for/recorded delivery and they all arrived within 7 days of being posted.

We posted 9 [pstcards inside printed envelopes early October at Kalkan post office/  It cost  more as they were not treated as  postcard delivery.

As yet not one of those have arrived in England!!!

Oh, snap!  Because the post office was closed when we went down to the village we popped our postcards in the yellow box to the left of the steps (if was a bit ricketty but was a post box after all) confident that the box would be unlocked when the post office opened the following morning and our missives would be on their way to family and friends in Australia and UK.  WRONG!  Everybody is still waiting - six weeks now, and counting.   :(

Maybe they'll arrive by the time we go back again in April?  We won't hold our breath though.   :)

You would have more chance posting it up one of Kalkans lovely dogs bottoms than using the post service..we gave up long ago trying to post stuff back and now don't bother.....ps...(pick a chummy one with a smile and a waggy tail if you try it) ;D ;)

Might try that, at least  they might travel a bit  further than the post box!!!!

It was only this year we had the trouble as they have always got there before, sometimes even before we got home!!!!

However, I did receive a parcel this June whilst out  there, my neice thought she would send a  small pacel for my birthday.  I got it the day before we came home only because  one of the staff  had to go down  to the post office and was given  it....I know now I was very lucky to have got it!

Does everyone have to  pick their own mail up out there?

We actually want to post something from the UK to Kalkan, not the other way round, was just wondering what the safest way to send it is.

Best to ask a friend who is coming out to bring it (especially if not bulky) - if not you can advertise your request on EK - that has been done before - for KAPSA and letters needing coming out here...! :)

We have received many, many packages posted to Kalkan over the past few years -- probably more than 30, some of high value.  They all arrived safely at the Kalkan PO within 2-5 weeks.  However, they were sent from the US, not from the UK.

I wouldn't advise putting letters in the yellow letter box outside the PO.  They probably empty this out not more than once a month.  Best to take it directly to the counter and pay the postage, things will arrive to their destination much faster.

Posted a birthday card to my daughter in UK, last Monday, at Kalkan PTT (handed it in at the counter) and it arrived on Saturday!!! Have noticed that the old wooden post box outside has been replaced by a new freestanding yellow box but dont like to chance it especially in the winter.

When we worked in Turkey our British organisation did dozens of test posts from Turkey to the UK and we were able to track the exact routing and delivery times of mail between the two countries.  The delays were NEVER at the Turkey end. Mail was collected promptly and delivered to the UK within the published delivery deadlines.  It was then held at at the UK 'port of entry', sometimes for weeks, before being sent on for further delivery via the UK postal service.

So the criticisms of the Turkish postal service are rather unjust.

That is really interesting Lantana.   Just shows we shouldn't be too quick to judge things.

I do wonder why on earth post needs to be held in the UK "port of entry".     Did you ever discover why?
