Turbulance
« on: April 18, 2011, 02:10:07 PM »
Hi all!
We areheading to Kalkan in May this year, I am a very nervous flyer and since booking a few friends have told me they have experienced quite abit of turbulance flying into dalaman.
My thoughts are that its better if I am prepared for it, have any of you experienced this? Bear in mind I am a nervous flyer so no horror stories!
Looking forward to hearinf from you all
 :)

Just to reassure you, I used to dislike flying even though we have flown long haul many times. Since buying in Kalkan we come three times a year and my nerves seem to have evaporated!
There is a mountain range about 3/4 hour before you land at Dalaman and sometimes it can be a little bumpy then, only for about 10 minutes, but the upside of that is once over them you begin a gradual descent into Dalaman and we have never experienced anything untoward.

I am sure plenty of people can tell you horror stories which become exaggerated over time. Just hold on to the thought turbulence is uncomfortable but not dangerous and it will pass!

Once you get to Kalkan you will realise it has all been worthwhile. Enjoy!

Our last landing into Dalaman was the most bumpy I have ever had....I've flown all over the world in some pretty rubbish aircraft and never had anything like it.....its only happened once on all my visists to Dalaman so I'm hoping it was a one off...... :o :o :o.

I've not noticed any extreme turbulance on flights to Dalaman - and I would, because strange as it may seem, I quite like it  ::) - a bit like a big fairground ride!!  ;D ;D
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.

OH was a pilot for many. many, years.  A hard landing is a good one - you don't want to glide to the end of the runway!

Pilots motto:

"Biggest waste in the world is runway behind you"   ;D

Having said that, I hate flying with him - I know he is mentally doing it for the pilot from the moment we board the aircraft!

His idea of a great pilot is someone who has grey hair, glasses & a row of medals - none of them for bravery!!

Did you hear about the Aer Lingus 757 co-pilot that flew the out leg and landed, for the first time at Dalaman in a cloud of tyre smoke? "Bloody hell", he said to the man sitting on his left, "Did you see how short the runway is?" The Captain peered out and said

"But tell me, have you ever seen a runway so wide?"   :o     8)

my wife is a terrible flyer. she even scares the other passengers! apart from the drinks trolley we have found that "barts rescue remedy" spray really helps. as soon as she starts to panic (as we are boarding) she uses it and throughout the flight. you can buy it in boots and holland and baratt.
