Approximate cost for a DVD player and small TV?
« on: January 08, 2011, 10:28:41 PM »
We're thinking of buying a DVD player and a TV (for DVD use only) when we come over to Kalkan later this year.  Does anyone know the approximate cost of a basic DVD player and a small TV?  Also is it possible to by a DVD/TV combined rather than separate units?

Many thanks for any help you could give.

From personal experience, you can buy an all regions DVD player from stores such as Migros (Kas or Fethiye) and from Baris underneath the old Belediye building in Kalkan for under 100TL.  TV's are a bit more expensive but you should be able to get one for under 500TL in Kalkan.  Arcelik provide an excellent service although they may not be the cheapest.  Migros in Kas, or more likely Fethiye, may be cheaper.

Hope that helps

Thanks Clashgour that's very helpful and now gives us a far better idea about costs.  We're thinking towards the idea of a combined DVD/TV in one unit.  Are these available in Turkey and if so any idea about the cost for a basic model?

Five years ago, when furnishing my apt, I purchased both a tv/dvd player combo and a brushed stainless steel microwave from Arcelic.  The tv/dvd cost about £100 then for the smallest size and I can't remember the cost of the microwave but it was more expensive than in the UK but it also has an electric grill and a spit.  And so, I am sure you will be easily able to purchase both items and there is now an Arcelic store in Kalkan.

In addition, Arcelic gives wonderful service, same day or the next at very reasonable prices when goods are no longer covered by the guarantee.

Try looking at teknosa.com.tr, they will give you some idea of the costs of TVs and DVDs. They are a national chain and have shops in Fethiye. If you use the translation, the cost looks high but it is Turkish Lira not pounds. Teknosa is like Currys.

Agree with howmad, they carry branded TVs & etc. I bought an LG 22" full HD TV/Monitor for about £225 there last May. Same one in UK was £175.
I carried a spare DVD player over in hand baggage. The later ones are quite small, light and portable. Here they are about £30 now for a named brand.
There - over there, there are.            To - Going to
Their - belongs to them.                     Too - In addition, Also
They're - Short for they are.
