A happy Christmas to you to Maryjane.  I'm finding it increasingly hard to remember how it felt on those hot sunny Kalkan days last summer, whilst I'm looking out at a snowy landscape.  This forum helps doesn't it. It can be a ray of sunshine; possibly unlike this (not to brilliant) festive joke.

Same from me to all members and viewers of EK.  I hope I am not accused of mixing threads, but I saw a Villa yesterday which has big problems - it's called ASTON Villa and they simply couldn't stop Rafael van der Vaart!  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

a belated merry christmas to all EK members and the team, have a great 2011.
We forgot to celebrate Christmas this year, our 20 year old son has been in a sledging accident and broke his back. It all happened on Christmas morning so despite having a house full of guests, Christmas just hasn't happened and New Year will probably pass us by too. His doctors are optimistic he'll make a good recovery as there's no permanent nerve damage, but its a long road ahead :( :( ...we are very much aware of how much worse this could have been, so are grateful for small mercies :-\
Eat, drink and start the detox in the New Year...there's plenty of food in our house if anyone's running short ;D

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Hope everything turns out well for your son! What an awful thing to happen :( Every best wish for a full and speedy recovery and if no nerve damage then hopefully the break will heal with no lasting problem. I worked in a spinal unit for a while and saw the amazing recoveries that people made so try to keep optimistic. As you know it may take a while and be hard work but he will get there and the love and support of family and friends will be invaluable.
Thoughts are with you all :)

So sorry to hear about your son - it must have been a terrible shock to you all.  Our daughter broke her back two years
ago in a freak horse riding accident,  she was very lucky as things could have been so much worse.   Time is a great healer, just be patient and be strong for them as they do have their ups and downs, when I look back on this period I think we were all in shock, but our daughter amazed us with her perservance and fortitude and she even went back to Uni the same year and completed her degree.  I hope this will give you some hope, just be strong for each other and things will work out.  Take care x

HNY everyone :-*
Thanks so much for your good wishes. Our son is making really good progress and had his body brace fitted yesterday :) :)  As soon as he's on his feet we'll get him home and start his road to recovery. We aim to be in Kalkan with him and our daughters in August, as planned...he'll have to be well by then as we don't fancy pushing a wheelchair up and down those hills ;D ;D
Itstime, how is your lovely moggie doing?
BL...what a memory :o  I work for a charity that supports a specialist hospital so I see fantastic work, miracles even... in the course of my working day and I'm very proud of our NHS, but the unit he's being treated in is completely under resourced. There's only ONE bed for spinal injuries can you believe that..?!! Things will only get worse under the cuts, so we feel compelled to do something. Me and BH are still hoping to get a sneaky 10 days in Kalkan during early June - we've not booked yet but fingers crossed - see you and Mrs Lizard in Moonlight if we do :)

Yes, HNY Everyone!

K4E, so sorry to hear of your son's situation. Our thoughts are with you and we wish him a full recovery. Just when we thought our Qtr 4 2010 was as bad as it could get (Christmas cards going back in the loft, and the cake may come out of ther tin at Easter!!).

Anyway, now we have a new year and new beginnings and we hope for the best,

Cheers

Anne & Steve

Hi K4E so glad to hear that your boy is doing well :) The thought of a trip to Kalkan would certainly spur me on to keeping going with the rehab exercises :D and the thought of having to push a wheelchair up those hills will certainly encourage you to keep him going ::)

Thanks for asking after my wee cat, especially when you've got so much going on, but he's doing not so bad. Back at the vet on Tuesday. LOL think I should just move into the surgery and hand over my cash card :o

Have a great new year, keep your chin up and dream of the scent of Jasmine on a warm balmy Kalkan evening. It's what keeps me going :D
